Advice re Barclays PPI on loan

Hi,
I had a phone call a few weeks ago from some company
trying to reclaim ppi on previous loans i took out with barclays.
I looked into reclaiming myself as naively thought at the time
this was compulsory. I rang barclays and the immediately sent me
my loan agreements from 2005.
Looking at the ppi I paid nearly £2000 in ppi premiums and credit interest charges.
I looked on this site to download the forms to send off to barclays but in a call last week to customer relations they logged my complaint over the phone.
Is this the norm? or would it be best to send the forms anyway?

Hi there
Glad your having a go yourself, happy to hear it.
In my opinion I would have sent the forms, and keep copies of everything, you have something in black and white then in case you need to refer to them again at some point.
Send them anyway just to cover yourself and also write a bit of a letter to confirm you have already been informed due to a telephone conversation dated XX/XX/XXXX, where they confirmed your complaint have been logged, but you enclose the reclaiming documentation anyway.
Hope this helps, good luck, oh and they normally have 8 weeks in full to give a decision.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks, I will send in the forms anyway. They did give me a complaint reference so it should be easy to track. Barclays did say
they were putting claims on hold until after the review but would
send out an acnowledgement letter saying they were investigating.Hi there

You can make complaints over the phone, if they have given you a reference then your complaint is logged.0 -

Its been a few weeks since I complain the the ppi and I have recived confirmation they are looking into the complaint. Keep getting phone calls from a ppi reclaiming company who just wont take no for an answer. I told them I was claiming myself and they told me that it would take me over 2 years. They also said they could get me 8% interest. Does anyone know if they are just going through a list of all ppi's sold?0

ignore the reclaim companies, they will have to follow exactly the same process as you are following, so if they are saying it will take you 2 years thay are making an assumption and trying to mis-lead you.
it will only take longer than 8 weeks if you have to refer it to the FOS, this can take up to a year, but it would be no different with a claims company.
if you are succesfull you will get the 8% simple interest as well, even by doing it yourself,
stick with it, and if you need any help just shout.:j:j:jI'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free0 -
Just a quick update, its been 5 weeks since I complained to barclays. The sent me a 'we are looking at your complaint letter' very soon after. I have spoken to customer relations a number of times to get an update but with mixed success.
One representative told me Barclays would probably send out their questionairre for me to fill out (nothing came)
On another occasion I was told the name of the handler looking at my claim and that the delay was probably due to the complex calculations they had to run for the refund - the rep would get the handler to call me (knew there was little chance of this)
Next person I spoke to last week was surprised no letters had been sent out since the initial eg questionnaire etc. Was told that it looked as if they were not handling this complaint well. This person told me there was no one person assigned.
Only 2 weeks till 8 weeks have passed and barclays have not even sent a questionnaire. Do I go straight to the fos at 8 weeks or give them some extra time?0 -

Hi there
I would wait for the 8 weeks to pass, and not only that there may also be postal delays due to the current bad weather.
I would ring them if nothing have been heard by 8 weeks, hopefully there will be some hopeful news by then, but otherwise you can make the complaint to the FOS.
Good luck and please keep us posted, cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
