Can I just check how the dispute console works please.

I have a NPB.

They won the auction on 1st October. On the 5th I messaged them to ask if they still wanted the item. On the 9th I opened a dispute. They messaged on the 10th to say they were surprised I had not yet received their cheque, but did not reply to the dispute.

I messaged back to say "no, when did you send it?"

They messaged yesterday to say "a couple of days after the auction closed".

I haven't received the cheque, they haven't replied to the dispute. I was under the impression if they didn't respond the dispute closed itself after a week or so, but it hasn't.

Am I supposed to do something?

I am heartily sick of waiting for the dizzy buyer to send inadequate responses so I just want not to have to speak to them again.

Help!!

The dispute will not close on its own, you have to manually go into the dispute centre and close it. Choose the option that you no longer wish to wait for the buyer..and make sure the option you tick shows that the buyer will get a strike and you will get your FVF returned.

  • How are you so sure the buyer never sent the cheque, I mean it could have got lost in the post.

This is a harsh line to take and buyers can take it personally. If they have responded to the dispute and you give them a strike they can neg you. I know because its happened more than once to me recently.

According to the OP, they have sent messages, not responded via the panel. They're in a poor position.

Well mostly because they didn't contact me in any way at all for a week, despite me sending polite messages asking if they still wanted the item.

Then saying have you not got the cheque yet? and then taking a week to reply to my immediate response asking when they had send the cheque.

I mean I think if I was buying and the seller asked me where my cheque was, I would be a little bit more concerned than just ignoring them for a week.

So I'm very sorry for them if their cheque is lost, but I don't see why I should be paying fees when they aren't that bothered about letting me know what is going on.

Of course buyers will take this personally, they are meant to. I will not be held hostage by buyers who don't communicate. If I sent a cheque and my seller said it hadn't arrived I would be seriously concerned and would be emailing the seller asking how to resolve this, and suggesting I sent another cheque immediately and cancel the first one. I certainly wouldn't just leave a dispute running against me and ignore it.

The question should be, 'has the seller been paid?' if no, then an NPB dispute is entirely appropriate. If the seller is able to close the NPB dispute without a response from the buyer, that means he (the seller) has already waited 15 days for payment..so why can't he claim his FVF's back at that point?

    Put in your payment options:

"If you are sending payment by post, PLEASE advise me of this"
(so I won't hound you for payment)
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

No worries. I realise that we are normally not too far apart in the way we look at things.
