Second hand car faulty.

3 The car can be return after 28 days (law)
4 Stand outside and tell future customers what happen to you.
Do this for a day or 2 it will be worth it to get the 7 grand you paid for the car.
It always help to read the original question carefully.
"car is faulty 2 months old" (which I'm assuming means 2 months from purchase and not 2 months from new otherwise the Renault warranty would cover it)
"9k it cost us"
And could you post a link to the relevant legislation that allows 28 day returns on used vehicles.0 -
Just been on the phone to trading standards. The garage are being reasonable at the moment, I think they know it's because we do have comeback.
The age, mileage and cost of the car, you wouldn't expect these things to go yet, or to spend thousand repairing it all so quickly after purchase baring in mind the cost.
This is all things a court would take into consideration and if it's an economical right off, they'd look at the fact it's a high end used car which is not of satisfactory quality.
So if it gets messy it looks like we'll HAve a good case at court under the SOGA, hopefully it won't thanks for those that did try and help, thought I'd get some proper advice though as it wasn't forthcoming here.
Yes Alias going to get them to do belts at the same time I think.0 -
Have you spoken to the selling garage? Tell them that you want them to collect it.The man without a signature.0

It's a shame they've had it 2 months (what law BTW?) and it cost 9k then!

If there is a problem
These are your statutory consumer rights. If any of them are breached you are within your rights to go back to the seller, who will then be legally required to remedy the situation in a number of different ways, depending on your situation and the nature of the complaint. The law requires you to act reasonably too, so if the problem is minor and can be repaired easily, within reasonable time, at no additional cost to you and without causing any significant inconvenience, then the dealer can insist on a repair as a first option. But remember that this will not stop you from taking it back if the repair is unsatisfactory or there is something else wrong with the car.
If the car cannot be repaired, if the repair is unsatisfactory, or takes an unreasonable length of time, your next option would be to have it replaced. If this is undesirable or impossible, then you can request a refund, although if some time has passed, you should be aware that any the refund given may well take account of any use you have had of the car since you took possession of it.
In situations where you would like to keep the car and undertake to carry out the repairs yourself, you have another option, which is to request a discount on the price paid

Yes just spoke to them when they opened they are looking into their recovery policies now to try and sort it.
Like I say they are being reasonable but as it seems we do have a good case against them so they probably know this. They do seem like a decent outfit.
I was coming here just to get some quick tips before TS and the garage opened, but I have spoke to them now0 -
What sort of warranty came with the car?
Was it one provided by the garage, or was it a Renault used vehicle policy?Yes faults happen but these particular issues should not be occuring at this time
To be honest, faults can and do happen at any time, and the fault you have could just as easily have happened with a brand new vehicle. (Just look at the problems Rolls Royce had with their new multi million £ aircraft engine.)
At least your garage appears to taking a reasonable stance and didn't just fob you off or ignore you.0 -

Yeah well the actual engine it's self could be knackered which it's looking more likely this is the case and it's certainly something you'd not expect.
But the rights under the SOGA are pretty strong baring in mind this is not some 1k banger, it's a 9k banger:rotfl: the SOGA still applies and if it's an engine write-off after 2 months, it's not of a suitable standard!
The warranty is irrelevant, if this went to court I'd be fighting for my rights under the SOGA.
Just phoned my friend who is a solicitor to help confirm all of this, didn't want to ring too early on a weekend, so feel a bit more confident now.
Hopefully the garage will carry on being reasonable, don't see why they wouldn't as they seem nice enough but wanted a quick run down here really before I could start phoning people this morning.0 -
The warranty is irrelevant
The reason I asked who supplied the warranty was that if it was Renault you could contact them directly and there is also a chance that they may supply a courtesy car whilst yours was being fixed.0 -

Yeah I knowBut the warranty is not worth the paper it's written on tbh. They have offered a replacment car for now, but we can't all get up there in the small car :rotfl:so I am going to hire a car anyway.
