Thats a fab advice doozergirl, thank you! As we probably cant afford the whole of the glass, we'll probably just get the splash back first in toughned glass then get the rest in later. Did the local glazier measure the glasses you need or did you have to do it youself?

I'm afraid its always morning after as I've been married for 4 years now! Not that it would make the shocking pink any less shocking:D

We measured. It's not hard. But if the wall is not dead straight, don't do it. It works really well on a new plasterboard wall, but if it's an old house then it can get pretty difficult! I've done 3m runs with no issue at all, but smaller ones where the wall was out, we had to go and get the glass cut into smaller pieces to accommodate the twists and turns of the walls... It still looks great and you don't really notice the cuts, but it's a pain going back and forth with the glass!

You can stick it to the wall with silicone sealant very easily. Best if the sparky is there if there are plug sockets as they can adjust thing slightly if needed.

ive bought many kitchens from wickes and BQ for less than 500 quid.
fitted em in a few days. worktops extra of course.

new sink from 30 quid. if required.
    oven/hob less than 200 quid.

you can get a kitchen fitted around here for about 500/1000 quid. labour only.
    Get some gorm.
  • hi thanks for all your comments

I did realise it was 2nd hand for £150 ish :):)

as the floor is already perfect I am thinking that I can get a decent job done and change out of £2k reading all your comments. A new oven is currys is something like £329 and £80 to fit n deliver, so rather than pay £400 for this, I am soldiering on with old one (hob works perfect), and spending november researching measuring, finding fitter, looking on ebay, sorting mentally aboutr splqashback vs tiles etc etc etc , with a view to making my move in dec, jan. even if I buy the kitchen and put it in garage for a few weeks its not the end of the world, as long as I have budget for the task

    Thank you all
  • You should really have toughened glass for near the cooker

Make sure the manufacturer states it is suitable for use behind heat sources before purchase.

I work for a property company and we fitted out 8 flats with toughened glass splashes (link the one on your link, but not pink!) a year ago.

6 of them have cracked already, our builders have gone back to their suppliers and the manufacturer to be told they wont cover the area's behind cookers, even though in all their "blurb" there are loads of photos with the glass placed behind cookers!!!

I once bought a "lovely" secondhand kitchen from ebay...looked great in pics, even went to view in situ..measured up..had dreams of how it would look in my kitchen. Paid for it and delivery men to collect and bring to my house, was placed in conservatory until fitting day!!!
My husband came home from work, saw it...and said NO WAY is that going into our kitchen! Once it had been dismantled, could see it was in a very poor condition, chips and dents, greasy units, broken hinges etc.

Once i saw sense :o I resold on ebay!! and we bought a new kitchen from B&Q which I must admit, was fantastic once completed...

I say never again....but you never know, now looking for a kitchen for our renovation project..and yes!! I keep looking at second hand ones on ebay:)
  • I bought our brushed stainless steel splashback from this company and their service was very good. They do glass, too. They were a fair bit cheaper than many others I looked at for a custom size, rolled edge in 8mm thick.

My sister in law also bought a (large) ex-display kitchen for about £1,000 from John Lewis I think it was - got a professional fitter in to install and it looked fabulous.

To the OP. Try searching on ebay under 'ex display kitchen'. There are lots on there and some great bargains. You will have to factor in transport costs etc but they are brand new (though you may have the odd ding or scratch if they've been on display in a showroom for a while).

Thanks guys! Sorry to have hijacked the OP's post.
  • had a look on ebay, not sure I would be paying £8k+ for an ex display kitchen I cant see :), but there is some on there which are about £200 at the mo with bidding to come

I am worried with the house ones what happens when they are dismantled. There is one on ebay which is 10 miles from me, and is descrtibed as perfect condition, less than 2 years old and looks mint, but wonder once unscrewed what it will be like....
