Buying a kitchen on ebay!

Hello. My oven is on the way out and when looking for a local replacement on ebay, I stumbled across several people selling fitted kitchens with integrated ovens. some selling for £150 or even less
I would love a new kitchen, mine being dilipidated and falling apart, but always been thinking £6k+ so....
now I am thinking buy one, which isnt goign to fit exact, get gas man in for pipe moving, buy some tiles (have tesco clubcard points for free ones at topps), and get a kitchen fitter to do the rest - including some imagineering about what to do with excess space etc etc, and do the whole thing for say £1200???
Am I mad? Am i dreaming? Anyone done it?
Thanks

Dont know about size of your kitchen but ours are costing:
Gas man/plumber - friend of our dad, gas safe registered, changing radiator & extending gas from supply to kitchen for £50 + costs
Kitchen fitter - 17 unit howdens (i.e. pre-assembled) kitchen for £950 cash. This includes installing appliances, sink, tap etc
Kitchen disposal - one of our friend wanted the kitchen so we gave it away for free.
Kitchen floor - yet to be done ?£500-600
Plastering - part of our building work. All the wall had to be re-skimmed after taking off the old tiles off
Electrics - part of our building work. Again sone electric points had to be moved or newly installed (change in regulation from 1990s!). Satin silver switches/isolator/power point not included so £150 for them. Also spent around £150 for new down lights (old kitchen had florescent)
Other costs? - we haven't bought splash backs yet. Also not decided on the upstands either!
So all in all, even without the cost of the actual units its likely to cost about £1000 or more I think. Unless you can fit kitchen yourself0 -
Its not a daft idea at all but you have to get one thats roughly suited to your kitchen in terms of units. Of course I'm sure they will all be collection only.0

OP I really do think you are dreaming. Have you thought that at £150 its got to be second hand?

Tile it!
Bit old hat - tile right down to worktop surface.
Cheers
Oops, I forgot to say we were looking for a glass splash back - my OH wants black but I'm thinking of more funky colour. I really like the idea of upstand thats covering all of the wall like this one (though not in pink!). Not sure how much it'll cost though!0 -
The kitchen in my house is from ebay. It's a John Lewis kitchen, ex-photoshoot. You can even see our exact units in the brochure. It was £500 plus that cost of the van and petrol to collect it.
The units I bought from Howdens for the utility cost more than that and whilst the quality is absolutely fine, you can tell the difference!
I sold an old kitchen from a house we were selling - decent enough units but useless to us, with appliances for a little less than £500.The lady that bought it was going to paint the doors - would have looked great when she put it in.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Try a local glazier. We use one and it is so cheap for the splashback. You should really have toughened glass for near the cooker, but it works out cheaper to put toughened behind the hob and regular glass elsewhere. It looks no different.
Works out about the same as decent tiles but doesn't involve the cost of adhesive, grout and the associated labour.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

which is what I call an upstand.
I see what you mean now - yes that would be nice but the shocking pink is not what you need when making that "morning after the night before" coffee.:D

Thats a fab advice doozergirl, thank you! As we probably cant afford the whole of the glass, we'll probably just get the splash back first in toughned glass then get the rest in later. Did the local glazier measure the glasses you need or did you have to do it youself?

I'm afraid its always morning after as I've been married for 4 years now! Not that it would make the shocking pink any less shocking:D0 -
Bet you won't be saying that when it gets to 40. :rotfl::rotfl:The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0
