we are having karndean fitted in our hall kitchen and dining room in a couple of weeks time. We did get a quote from the kitchen company as they sell it but found a local floor fitter who could give us a better price. We took a trip to Evesham where karndean have a showroom and that was worth a trip as almost all their tiles are on display and they give you samples to take home and try. Our quote is for £1400 ish for 27m square and includes leveling the concrete and laying karndean summer oak with a border strip - I think it is one of the more expensive ranges but comes in larger plank pieces.

Thanks sunnth - thats their art select range isn't it? So £1400 for 27m2 works out just over £51/m2. Not sure how it compares to knight tile range but the supplied price on the net seems to be x2 the price of knight tile range!

Hmm, I'm begining to wonder if the quoted £45/m2 for cheapest range is a little over priced....

I think it depends where you live. I live in the Home Counties and the cheapest supply and fit price I could get near me was £55 per sqm for the KnightTile.

Have you thought about plastic laminate? When i replaced my kitchen and bathroom floors I used a plastic laminate, I can throw about as much water as I like and it doesnt matter! The stuff I got was called Aqua step, I got a dark slate colour one, DIY able easily and super happy with it so far.

Just to make the decision process a bit easier!!! ;)

Wow £55/m2 is eye watering. Glad to know our local isn't overcharging us too much!

    Tigerjj:

Thansk for the sugeestion but we've decided we didn't like laminate in kitchen - in our last place (granted it was a cheap laminate) the laminate started to lift due to some of the water spillage around the sink! I know aqua step is more water resistant but you've not seen me cook/wash up :)

Thanks Andrew! For some reason I always thought aqua step was more water resistant version of normal laminate. Scratching is a problem with all synthetic materials I think. Even on here there are debates about Karndean/Amtico scratching or not scratching (or denting)...

The other thing to consider is heating.

I'm planning to have a new kitchen next year and don't really fancy walking on an ice cold floor. So I'll have underfloor heating which immediately rules out most forms of laminate heating. I'll probably have to go for ceramic or stone tiles as they conduct and retain heat much better.

    Just a thought...

Well we had the tiler recommended by several people around today. For 19m2 kitchen (and the actual floor space will be 16m2 after the units) he quoted £485 for fitting only. It does include grouting/sealant/self leveler but doesn't include material.

Sounds to me like I'd be better off going to the original local firm who will fit knite tile for £45/m2 including the material!

Yes, tiling is more expensive than Karndean. £30 per sqm for tiling isn't too bad, I paid around £80 per sqm includng the tiles for my kitchen and the tiles cost would have been around £35 per sqm. I know I paid over the odds, but my tiler is very experienced and a perfectionist so I paid for peace of mind.

So thats £45/m2 for the tiler:eek:? I suppose if you are getting the best its justifiable but my guy is in his low 20s so he cant have much of an exprience!

I'm begining to think I'm in the wrong job:p
