Using BT hub phones with Plus net - is it possible?

We have changed from BT to Plusnet and have about 5 hub phones which cost us a fortune. They were handy because our house only has 2 phone points. Tonight we have set up the plus net and obviously now our landline phones dont work, they just state they are 'searching for hub'.

The hub for the plusnet is called a Thompson Gateway and the phones we had from BT are these

is there any way of getting them to work with the new plus net thing, after all, I understand plus net to be BT in another guise sort of thing?

thanks

  • Handset must be registered to BT Home Hub 2.0 for all features to be accessible

but if you trawl the web you may be able to find a fix

    one of the famous 5:kiss:
  • i had the same issue, even if you managed to get the home hub working on plusnet (lots of hacking required) plusnet wont be able to send the required information down the line to enable sending/receiving calls.

talk to BT they MAY buy them back off you... failing that, get some more stuff together and have a car boot sale

The Thomson router is a much better one than BT's horrible HomeHub in any of it's incarnations.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

thanks, i'll get my partner to look at that. i wanted to make the hub plug into the phone socket and the hub phones pick up from the hub wirelessly, through the air, is this possible? not necessarily the internet

im not really sure how things work

There appears to be more than one version of BT's HomeHub. Version 1 seems to work without much problem, while reports on version 2 vary. Have a read of http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,85269.0.html
  • Simples - connect your BT Hub 'broadband' line cable out to phone side of your micro filter, and your new Plusnet Broadband router cable to the 'broadband' side of the micro filter. The Hub phones will then work as before on your landline, but will no longer work on your 'broadband talk' line. Note that your hub will still be visable on the list of possible wireless connections for your computer, but will not connect to the internet any longer. I believe you can still use it as a wireless home network though if you had one, or want to set one up - Hope this helps.

no, i mean we have the white plus net router (or whatever) plugged in for the broadband but wanted to put the hub in the phone socket to power the landline. at the moment it seems to be working, the phones are working on the landline, we have the bt hub and the plus net hub both plugged in. my lap top is wireless and comes up saying i am plugged in via plus net, the phones seem to be working on the landline. however, im not sure if we are still paying bt for the phones, im not sure when bt cut off, if you like

i wonder if the hub will continue to work once our account is closed?

well an update on this, OH says that he managed to get the hub to accept his plus net password, without any tinkering, which sounded a bit odd to me, because he thought he would try to get the thing to work without using the plusnet hub so we only have one hub sitting there, however, it was confusing to me as i thought surely it must still be using the bt service if we are using the bt hub??

im not sure how to tell whose internet we would be using if we used the bt hub but with the plus net password in it. i dont want to be using bt and paying for them and plus net? i got him to unplug it and he got annoyed about this.

do you think if its using the password for plus net its using their service?

i think its a version 2, the ones everyone says cant easily be chnaged, i cant believe its a simple as my OH says
