My tv is on the blink - advice please!

I think my TV is on the blink, it's a Samsung LCD 42" flatscreen (4 years old) but lately it's been flicking off for a second when I'm watching it - as though there's a pwer cut - then it goes back on again. Doesn't happen often, just occasionally. But now today the screen went blank (no picture - just sound) and the bottom left hand corner seemed darker than the rest of the screen. I turned it off and when I put it back on it was OK, but then tonight the picture went black again with just sound. Turned it off, and the picture came back when I switched it back on, but I reckon it's on it's way out.
Any TV experts around who could advise if it sounds like it's worth repairing? If not, any recommendations on what make I should buy if I have to replace it?
Thanks in advance.

Hello blb - our 22 year old Sony 27 inch has just displayed the same symptons. I cannot complain given the age - but will be looking in for idea's on what to buy to replace it.
I eliminated the power on switch as the cause of the problem here by using the mains plug to switch on the tv. I suspect it is a component in the power supply failing during the warm up phase - most likely a capacitor. I'll take a look tomorrow morning, but I suspect it is most unlikely to be a simple or economic fix, unless there is an obviously damaged / leaking component.
I hope you get some useful advice - sorry unable to help more.0 -
Betty - google your make and model number. A lot of Samsung TVs have had problems like you describe seems like a capacitor problem. Mine developed this problem after 2 years (I year out of warranty) and hats off to Samsung they replaced it with a new set.0
