Recieved car back after repairs with faults

Ok so basically 5 weeks ago I had an accident, my fault, got courtesy car next day, great service I thought. Then I got 4 dates 1 after the other that came and went to pick the vehicle up.There was always something else delaying them. Then on the 5th time they said on test drive they noticed speedo was nt working nor the fuel gauge also the wing mirriors.
They said they would need to contact insurers who are ADMIRAL and get another estimate across and then crack on. They then ring saying I need to ring insurance who said they belive the damage was already on the vehicle and that if I wished to contest this I need to go to a main dealer and get a diagnostic test done (at my own expense) This as I pointed out would nt acertain how fault came about and therefore would nt get me anywhere.

Is there anything I can do???

  • Get a report and prove them wrong.

The way I see it it is imposssible to prove it was caused by the accident and impossible to prove it wasn't. A report would mearly conclude there is a fault there.
  • I think you woould be surprised at what dealer/garage diagnostics could show in terms of error codes and when they appeared. You have nothing to lose so why are you against it?

Nothing to lose I have to pay for the diagnostic at a main dealer probably be around £100
  • But unless they prove you wrong you would get this back.

Yes correct but a big gamble as the diagnostic as I said would just say there was a fault giving no indication of cause. I have access to a basic diagnostic at work and they just give you an error code as you suggested. Acode cant tell you a cause can it??

Electric wing mirrors, not working? Were they working before accident? How do you know?

I'd be saying to the insurer, those things were working before the accident, get them fixed! If they give you the same story I would say, "no, you get a diagnostic done to prove they were already broken"

But if push came to shove I would at least ask a local delaership just what information they will be able to pull off your ECU and tell them the problem ask if it sounds like something they could read. And if they sound positive then go for it.

Has the repair garage disconnected the battery at any point - ask them. Did the battery get disconnected in the accident?

car is an 02 golf diesel. I can only say that the mirriors were working last time I used them. I am aware that they could have gone faulty without my knowedege. Altho all of these things at once not accident related????

Battery not disconnected during accident. Would have to ask them. Thinking about it I would have thought they had dis connected but not sure.

And I was thinking along the same lines, as in I was going to say to them prove they were nt working before hand then they came up with main dealer thing.

I spoke to VW today and told her what the crack was, I said that the sensor was faulty told her it was towards the front end of the car ie where the damage was and she said it was likely to be related. I cant help thinking likely will be enough to get admiral to finish the job properly.
