Hi all,
I am a bit of a novice when it comes to Star Wars and my husband wasn't into them either.
My 6 year old DS wants to watch a Star Wars DVD, he has said all his friends are playing the characters in the playground and as he has never watched it before he doesn't know what to do.
So I thought I would order a dvd for him to watch.
It is such a minefield I don't know what one to buy.
Can anyone advise please?
Many thanks

episode 4 a new hope. It's PG so you might want to watch with him.
the lego star wars games for games consoles are also fun if you have them, and less scary!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
if its 'all ' their friends
then im betting its the newer clone wars animated stuff0 -
well the release order of the proper movies are
episode IV - a new hope
episode V - empire strikes back
episode VI - return of the jedi
episode I - phantom menace
episode II - attack of the clones
episode III - revenge of the sith
then you get the 'clone wars' series which are carton based ones and probably more likely to be the ones that his friends are watching
clone wars movie (rating 12 - although from what i can rmemeber of the film i cant see why it would be a 12 rating but it was a while ago when i watched it) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Clone-DVD/dp/B001CEE1XK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1289572324&sr=8-5
clone wars series one (rating PG) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Clone-Season-DVD/dp/B0028BAWWA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1289572379&sr=8-2Drop a brand challenge

My lad is 6 at xmas and him and his friends are all mad on Star Wars. It sounds like that is all they play in the playground at school and when his friends come over it's all they seem to do.
I would say my lad and his friend are more into the films than the Clone Wars but he likes both. The reason I say that, is because the one they always want to be is Luke Skywalker and the bad guy is always Darth Vader and they aren't in the clone wars.
I would say the film that he seems to like the most is
episode VI - return of the jedi.
Episode III - revenge of the sith, is probably the darkest and most scary. We didn't let him watch this at first until we gave into his nagging :-)
The ones he seems less fussed about are :
episode I - phantom menace
episode II - attack of the clones
If you have a console the lego series games are a definite. If you have a PS2 you can pick the lego star wars games up for a couple of quid. This seems to be what really drives their interest in it and then there is all the lego star wars sets.
Hope that helps a bit.0 -
They need to be watched in order so that the story can be understood properly. Having said that, episodes 1, 2 and 3 came out after 4, 5 and 6. personally I would watch them in the order they came out. Starting with episode 4. but others may disagree. the older movies are most definitely better in my opinion. But that is porbabaly because I watched the first when i was six and it was just amazing to me then. Kids nowadays are used to special effects.0

I have just asked DS (6) who his favourite character is and he said Annekin (Lukes Dad, becomes Darth Vader). So he prefers the newer series of films. He can't actually pick out a film that is his favourite though.
It seems to be a right of passage with boys but it's mainly started off by their Dads or other male rellies. DS has actually seen more starwars than I have!
Don't worry, before long you will have to figure out that the light sabre isn't always a light sabre, sometimes it's a wand and other times it's a sonic screwdriver. Agree with those saying start with number 4, a new hope.
DS (6) still hasn't watched number 3 as its too dark IMO.
Number 4,5,6 were from a more serene time in the early 80s. Clone wars is ok, but doesn't grab DS as much as the films do.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Thanks for this thread. Our 2 are sitting watching the second Harry Potter film right now and I was thinking that they'd love star wars but i didn't know where to start either.
It was simpler when we just had to wait till they came out and queue for an hour to get in!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
