university car park ticket - any experience?

Options
Hi all,
I parked at the university where I study and got a ticket. I had paid the fee to park and the ticket was stuck on the windscreen. There were no parking spaces (not unusual) in the few car parks where students paying by the day are allowed to park. Hence I put it on the grass verge at the edge of the car park, right next to a legally parked car, not obstructing anything at all. Came back to find a ticket for parking 'in an unauthorised or restricted area', £50 or £25 if I pay up soon.

Am avoiding giving any more details as some posters advise caution. Anyone got any experience of universities' attitude to this? My main concern is the University calling it a debt to them and not letting me graduate.

I assume that the "ticket" is actually from a private parking company - not the council - if so don't pay - ignore - they will send lots of letters - but eventually give up.

Name the company (not uni) & look at the stickie at the top of this forum for their letters.

It might be best to also name the Uni. The reason I say this is that certain Universities pretend to issue their own tickets (usually from the "estates department"), but in actual fact they are just fronting a private parking company in Northampton. This is certainly true for Bradford and York Universities.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Trisontana, this ticket appears to come straight from the parking co, not the uni, and indeed tis in Northampton

  • Even if the University issued the ticket directly, they are still a private company and have no more right to issue 'fines' than any other company.

    Ignore everything ;)

Out of interest if this uni has a law department, go and ask a lecturer about the legal aspects of a penalty issued by a private company, and whether it has any basis in law ;)
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
