Canaries or Egypt for New Year

Looking for some sun. Which will be warmest? Will it be warm enough for kids to snorkel in the sea at Egypt? Will it be warm enough to use a pool both places or should I be looking for a heated pool, if so any recommendations?
Many thanks

Which is warmer? Probably Egypt will be slightly warmer in the middle of the day, but the Canaries will be milder in the evenings and mornings. The sea will be about 19 degrees in the Canaries, a degree or two higher in Egypt. Not warm enough for me, but your children may be hardier. I would definitely go for a heated pool. The Seeside hotel chain in the Canaries all have heated pools and good food, but they are not a cheap option.0

We are going to sharm in a couple of weeks. I have read that the sea is warm enough to swim in but the pools are too cold.
Lanzarote last year, sea and pool were both freezing.£100 - £10,0000 -
I'm wondering the exact same thing, Egypt or Canaries flying out 27th December for a week... are the canaries all similar in temperature or do they vary?
Also, Egypt seems to be double the price of Canaries.0 -
This weather site (http://www.wunderground.com) is quite good, not only does it give you a general weather forecast but you can check what the weather has been like previously e.g. New years eve 2009, 2008 etc etc.0

Went to Taba for new year and we sunbathed in the day and swam in the sea. It was warmer in the sea than out of it. At night it was cool and you did need a light jacket . You need to watch unheated swimming pools though. You will be able to tell these as they are the one that even the kids are ignoring.0

My vote would be for Egypt, you won't need a pool, you will have the Red Sea, no contest!!0

We went to Sharm in Early December a couple of years ago.
Weather was around 25C mid day, a bit chilly at night. It was also rather windy for the whole 2 weeks, so didnt spend much time on beach due to sand being blown about.
Swimming pool was too cold, but there were kids in it. Indoor swimming pool was good, but it was packed.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Thanks for replies. Still undecided would love some sun but if its to cold for the boys to swim in sea and in pool then maybe they may get fed up.Also if its cool at night then we will have to rely on hotel entertainment which probably won't down well with a 15 year old. Have started to look in UK boys not back at school till 10th so could get a cheap mid week in at center parcs. Thanks again0

we went to egypt two christmases ago, the sea was plenty warm enough (the red sea is warm year round), but unless your hotel has HEATED pools (and remember they might heat one or two, but they won't heat them all), the pools will be FREEZING.
With the Canaries the sea will be colder
There were a lot of hassles in Egypt, which you don't get in the Canaries. Egypt is cheaper for food, but you'll almost certainly get ripped off when you buy it (unless you buy it in your hotel, in which case of course it will be overpriced).0 -
The Hilton in Sharks Bay is a very nice hotel, the sea will be warm enough to snorkle and it's all inc so no extras to pay for.
Just along the road from the hotel is a shopping area called SoHo Square, I think it would be safe enough for your boys to wander to by themselves.0
