This is , I have just checked , a Money Saving forum . gifts , how ever well intentioned that accumulate
in a cupboard is not money saving.
This topic gets raised every year , if I have only made one person rethink their ideas, I am happy.
To those that I have offended , that was not my intention .

I am also a primary teacher and have to admit that I have always loved having pressies for Chrimbo and at the end of the year. I am always very grateful and often touched by the gifts I recieve from parents and children ;)

I am a teacher myself, and i never send a present in for my kids teacher, we get paid, it is our job, if anything a nice card will do. My most treasured presents are cards from students and parents saying how much they appreciated my help etc, I keep them all

Think I will just give a prezzie to the Lollypop Lady instead this year, she might appreciate it more

this is what i used to do, when we had one, she was out all weather, was lovely with the kids, so we always got her a box of roses.

I love the fact that im now being labelled as ungrateful for saying how me and my numerous friends who teach (across various age groups across the country) see it.
Seriously I wouldnt bother buying the teacher anything then as there no way you can get a perfect gift as some teachers appear to like homemade food and others wouldnt touch it! (Funny how parents on here have admitted to guiding their children to some cake makers instead of others though but when I mention home made and germs and undesirables im ungrateful and rude!)
Wont be posting on here anymore now...

Might be worth baring in mind as well that many keystage 1 & 2 teachers buy their class presents out of there own money and then the parents pull a face at it only being a small selection box or its only a book - £1/2 times 30 kids in an average class out of their own pocket so many parents need to be a bit more appreciative of the small token gift their child recieves from the class teacher instead of sneering
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
  • I did qualify my post at the beginning.

I never said I didn't appreciate the gifts I was given, I do. I understand that you have made an effort.

However, after years of receiving the same type of gifts there does come a point where you enjoy some types of gifts more than others.

If the OP wants the teacher to enjoy her gift, then that is why I posted.

In the long run I don't think any more or less of those who give me a gift or don't. I still do my job the same.

Candles, gift vouchers, books (on teachers interests), stationery (teachers love it), flowers, orchids, personalized gifts (just not mugs) or anything linked to the teachers interests. Although I do think a thoughtfully written thank you letter is the most touching thing you can give.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • This website has lots of great stuff (t-shirts, mugs, stickers, magnets, etc.) with funny educational themes- especially for math, science, or English teachers. It's great because there is a range of items (and prices), it's all practical, and addresses their interests/profession without cliche apples and "I love teaching".

I can't post links, but if you go to cafepress (.com) /blueroodesigns and select the "Inner Geek" section.

All the ideas on here are very interesting -

One thing worth pointing out to everyone is : we all get gifts in life we dont like, because even our OH, DS DD dont know what to get us, we all go shopping buy clothes, great idea at the time, then leave in the wardrobe never wear. Then we all sell them on ebay.

So teachers; recycle or list on ebay the things you dont want, but accept with a smile and remember it doesnt matter what it is...they`re thinking of you

Parents -give if you want but dont be forced into it (£5 each parent 30 parents.....)how did the people feel that didnt want to give I wonder? Lets be honest some children in the class dont like their teachers for what ever reason , same as teachers might not like the children, its not a perfect world

This post wasnt to cause offence....it was just to point out some things.

I think I`ll go with the biscuit tins and tea for the staff rooms. Whatever the make I decide. As for the lolly pop lady, I`ll buy her a box of sweets....because shes always handing them out to the children. It gives her pleasure to see their faces.

And as for teachers buying for the children, i was more than grateful for our teacher giving the kids an egg but worried that she`d used her money. So perhaps for her to save she could print some fun stickers with best handwriting, drawing, footballer or what ever. As my kids are proud as punch when they come out of school with a sticker for something
