I've never had a ticket

I received a ticket from parking in Halfords.
As I was leaving the car park I stopped at the parking attendant and politely informed him that I had no intention of paying, I also requested (again politely) that he put the ticket in the bin for me so that I wasn't littering.

We have one vote for a PPC winning in court by tight scotsman. They only have one post and seem to be suggesting they're a bit of a thug, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/39189048#Comment_39189048 seems like the PPC sort to me. If they cannot come back to elaborate then I would consider the vote null and void.0

Received more threatening letters, 3 months on and nothing yetMy dad and uncle went to a wedding function in Leeds, they were given a parking permit, but apparently they parked in some other street (allegedly) and end up getting 2 parking control notices, each with a bill of £80 - much higher than the usual £30 or so that councils are issuing.
The letters looked professional and 'authoritative' - but I still smelled a rat and thought this was a scare tactic, but there was a logo emblem stating that the company was part of the British parking association or something along those lines and in my mind that tipped my decision from not pay into paying because that seemed to give it some legitimacy. However, I decided to do a quick search online and from reading another forum I realized that the parking association is simply a gimmick that has no government authority or backing but it is simply one of the cronies of the parking control lot.
Initially I responded to their letters and disputed their claims because we did have a parking permit on display, but they rejected that and said we had to pay otherwise they would enforce legal action - despite protests and appeals they said final decision was made and we had to pay - so I said fine, give me your evidence of the breach so that I can get a professional legal opinion.. hehe they skirted around that issue and simply said we had to pay. Then I ignored them after that and didn't bother to respond. They followed up with a serious of more threatening letters and enlarged bold red fonts but I chucked each one in the bin without a reply. It's been several months now and it appears they have given up on it.
From an ethical standpoint I can see the need for some parking rules enforcement, particularly if you parked on private property of others but these parking control firms come across as money grabbing thugs who try to intimidate you and fleece you out of as much cash as possible - the initial £80 fine was extortionate enough but because we didn't pay they bumped it up to £120 - how nice of them.Shin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.
