Fridge from eBay-a few questions
Purple-flower
Hi everyone, just won a lovely American style fridge from eBay. Just wondering if anyone has any tips about how to test it before I pay? It's a Samsung about 12 months old I think it's either the RSH or RSA model (sorry I will have to check and update this post later).
Should I pay cash? And will a medium size van do for transport? (something like a vauxhall vivaro?).
Any other tips? Thank you so much, all advice is much appreciated

Is it too late to back out? I know someone who had a lot of trouble with their one. It might not be the same model as yours, but here are some reviews.

Did they say why they were selling?0 -
They said they are moving house and don't have any room for it in their new property? No money has exchanged hands because I need to check it first really I think! I'm new to this....0

Not being odd I would never buy second hand electrics from ebay.
I would and have taken second hand electrics from people I know, or of freecycle.
The reason being with second hand electrical items there is no guarantee with them, and white goods have a habit of breaking randomly.
BTW I'm sure it's the make that was moaned about on Watchdog a few years back.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
Surely you are meant to test the fridge before bidding?0

To the OP. Read this thread:

I would back out if I were you. The worst that is likely to happen is you get a NPB strike against you.

Thank you for all your replies. We don't really have a fridge at the moment because the old one was very old and was leaking all over the place, had broken shelves etc it too was second hand and we have had it almost four years. We need a fridge and this one seems good. It's still within manufacturers warranty and all the original documents are present. It's only a year or so old so hopefully is not one of those with the design fault. Having looked through the thread recommended by olias, it seems the complaints are mostly about fridges that were manufactured about 3 or more years ago. I'm hoping this one doesn't fall into that category.0

If you've bid and won you have a binding contract. You are expected under Ebay rules to pay before delivery/collection or the seller might agree to cash on collection. You bid to buy not bid to view or test. Sorry but thats the way it is. A Non-Paying Bidder strike against you won't help you with further transactions. If you want to back out and Seller is a nice person you may get them to agree to cancel the transaction but it has to be via the formal Ebay process.

Please, please I'm not going to back out, I'm looking for advice on how to complete the transaction in the best way. We really need a fridge and I'm hoping to buy this one

We have had an american style samsung fridge/freezer from new for 6yrs now with no probs so i wouldnt worry too much. I have been uing ebay for a number of years and the best advice i can give is to check the sellers feedback thoroughly to satisfy yourself of their honesty and then ask all the relevant questions about the item. Ignore the above comment, you have not bought it yet, only agreed to buy at the agreed price. If when you go to collect it is not as described in the ad then you can just walk away.
If it transported on its back/side then make sure you leave it standing for a few hours before you plug it in.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
