The funny thing in all this nonsense from the job centre to claim the pittance to live on is the fact that there are no jobs out there to be had!!.

Yes, there are. I just did a very quick search within a ten mile radius in my area and come up with 1,646. It is getting really boring hearing work-shy dole bludgers trotting out that old pony.

It is pure nonsense to have the booklet and all the stupidity that goes with it,it is truly creating needless stress for people that are already vulnerable and at their lowest mentally so why create unrealistic goalposts for them and threaten them with loss of money through no good reason.

So you think it is OK for people to simply be given a handout every week (and let us not forget that benefits given is not just JSA - there is also CTB and HB/LHA). No need for people to look for work - or prove they have been looking for work, just hand over the cash every week? What is unrealistic about searching for work - and how stressful is it to record that search?

Someone who is out of work and fit and healthy will be doing what they can to find work given that the meagre amount they are given is at best keeping them in poverty so why compound the misery with such crazy rules.

Because generally you cannot trust all the people to be looking for work - ergo they have to demonstrate that they have been looking for work in order to qualify for free money. Seems reasonable to me.

It takes 2 minutes. I was told I just need to write what I did, what happened and if needed, what I will do next. So, most of my entries are something like "looked on direct gov. <date> Found suitable job. <job ID> <date> And that's it.

I struggle to understand this issue. People are claiming an allowance to actively seek work. They must take a minimum of 3 steps to look for work and those steps MUST be productive and give them the best possible chances of finding work.

You want retail look on all the retailers websites, list them all, ask in store etc....

You want teaching look on local council education sites, agencies who use supply teachers etc.....

people turn up to their jobsearch review and state looked in local paper, asked friends and used internet. Not good enough we need to know what sites, what paper, what friends , where do they work?

Supply evidence of good jobsearch and there is no issues, take companies details of who you have sent a c.v. to, provide details of jobs you have applied for, newspaper cutting, reference numbers. JCP won't sanction the money if you are actively looking. All doubts must sent to a decision maker, they have the final decision.

They actually did this the first time as mentioned in my post - I'd done about 3-4 things in the first week and still got a warning.

Thankfully, the adviser this time around had a bit more sense - he had to apologise for something and mentioned a possible job for me. I did two things this time around and didn't get sanctioned.

As pointed out originally you were signing from 7th to the 16th. So more than 2 steps would have been required.

This time signing you were on signing for two days.

Next signing you will be in arrears for a full two weeks so they will expect a full jobsearch log!
  • To be fair you must have caught your advisor on a really bad day to get referred for now Actively Seeking Work on your first signing when you had only attended your Work Focussed Interview two days later.
