    this is all very confusing.

    its £180 if that helps

he wants the items, happy to pay.

he was talking of doing a bank transfer so i have the funds then he can pick up when he gets back from hols, but i dont really want to give him my details TBH

i either wait until he returns from hols, pays in cash and collects, or get cheque now and collects after hols

he'd only need to know the sort code and account number and name, is it THAT risky?
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

No, but by the same token, they have no recourse if the items turn out to be faulty. I would also think a bit more about the items if you are this concerned they will want their money back, which is why I would suggest that he pays up front once he has inspected them on collection, whether with a cheque, transfer or cash. Otherwise you will have to sort it out one way or another if there is a fault with the item on closer inspection.

BT details are only what you give out every time you write a cheque. We've been indoctrinated very well into keeping our details private, but it's wise to have an accurate knowledge of the risks and benefits involved.

  • Usually the bank tells you if you make this transfer it is non refundable so to make sure the amount is correct.

Is he only wanting to send a cheque to secure the item from resale while he's away?

If so, I'd say you only take a 'counter' cheque issued by his bank/BS which is drawn on the their account, not buyers.

    Otherwise wait for the cash.

Ermm as far as my bank is aware cheques can be cancelled up to something like 6 months.

I would do bank transfer as you only supply the details you would on a cheque anyway so it is not really a massive secret and no one can take money out with the sort code and account number only anyway.

You could do a bankers draft though as that is like money.
