Colelcting item, sending a cheque

Hi

Sold a couple of high value items, but buyer is about to go away on holiday

He asked if he can send a cheque and then pick up

If he does, and i cash it, is there a way he can get his money back once it has been cashed?

I dont want to be scammed

only if it / they are not as described - then they might be able to get a refund if they return the goods -

- if they are electrical type items I would take a photo of the serial numbers etc - just in case there is any of the old switcheroo involved later !

No, there is no buyer protection on cheques. You might like to wait before cashing it just in case they change their mind when they pick the stuff up.

so if i cash the cheque, he cant reverse it or anything?

I know that if it is not cashed then it can still be cancelled

cant reverse a chq once cashed - as I said only scam I would see is if they play SNAD action ,get refund and send you back different items to what they picked up

...but wait for more opinions on here first !

They can't get a refund for SNAD from Paypal for a cheque.

Plus it's not scamming you to say that an item is not as described. That's INR you're thinking about.

yes - but they might change their minds about actually paying for it as well and stop the chq after lifting the goods

on some items buyers claim SNAD ( because it does not work ) and get refund whilst sending back a faulty unit they have allready - hence the old switcheroo !

Yes, but we're assuming here buyer is automatically in the wrong, which is never a good thing.

If I was buying something high value I'd probably take the time to go and see it properly, and probably take some form of cheque or draft because I'd be worried about carrying too much cash on me. From the buyer's point of view, the safer the better. Cash could be counterfeit too! Better not accept that.

Things can go wrong, but as a seller I wouldn't refuse someone and I'd make sure they trusted me as well.
