3g sim in 2g phone to stop working
I am with 3 on contract and I have a very cheap nokia phone that I bought in asda for £30. I just got a message from three saying that on 18 nov my 3G sim will stop working on my 2G phone and wanted to find out what this means?
I have a toddler and he damaged 6 phones in the last year including the contract one so I dont particularly want to spend money of a new phone if I dont have to. My contract is due for renewal next May.
I have just been on the ASDA mobile site but it seems they dont state if a handset is 2G or 3G, how do I know its 3G. I prefer adsa phones because they come unlocked and would prefer a Nokia too if I can. Just a cheap one.

As for 2G being switched off, you will need a 3G enabled phone with your 3G SIM so your service won't be disrupted.
My girlfriend is on Three and recently replaced her old phone, it was an 'INQ Mini' - quite a cheap, no frills 3G enabled phone, and I think it may be exclusive to Three network. Have a gander at the 'INQ Mini'. I'd post you a link but because I'm new, the site won't let me!0 -

The reason you got this message was that 3 operate on a 3G network and if you use their SIMs in a 2G phone all the calls used to get routed through 3s back-up network, Orange. The agreement with Orange has now ended and so if you only have a 2G phone chances are you'll get no signal as all the back-ups are being switched off.0

Thank you cmh4135 that explains what this is all about. I will get the ZTE F102 that ioscorpio suggested. Very charges £4.95 delivery and I have seen its sold in my local argos too so I will grab one from there. Many thanks.0
