warm front grants

Options
Hiya we've just had our boiler looked at (an 18yr old ravenheat 820/20) and we've been told we need a replacement. The boiler guy recons we may qualify for a warm front grant as we are on the higher band of child credits and have a 4yr old and 7month old baby. Has anyone had any luck with the grants? I have looked online and it also mentions that the grant can be used for draughtproofing, does that mean we could also replace old single glazed windows for double glazing? My dad is a glazier and could do it for cost, or would they have their own people to do the work?
Many thanks for any replies.

We received a new boiler, radiators and cistern 2-3 years ago with a Warm Front grant but, to the best of my knowledge it is only available if the person/family are in receipt of certain benefits. I get Attendance Allowance at the lower rate. An engineer from Transco actually condemned our ancient boiler and left it unusable.

As we are over 70 we were entitled to free cavity wall insulation but I have never heard the word draughtproofing used. I think you can get a free checkup from the gas company you use about general draughtproofing. Unfortunately, double glazing is not available FOC as far as I know.
Did you look on the Warm Front website?
I did hear that the government are cutting back on some of these grants but I would definitely check it out.

You must keep the children and yourselves warm this winter. Another thing you could try is approaching the company who supplies your gas/electric as they have cheaper tariffs for people on lower incomes (means tested).

P.S. Just ad a quick look at Warm Front's page and it seems you are entitled. Get your application in quickly. The grant is £3500 I think.

We got a grant when we were on working tax credits, we got oil central heating fitted but we had to pay £150 towards it. We also got loft insulated and windows and doors draft proofed, dont think you'll get double glazing, they didnt give it to us anyway, they just put those hairy strips all around the edges. Also you cant just have anyone do it, it has to be their company's. Well worth applying though.
  • We got a Warm Front grant for oil central heating, it's been fitted for about a month and it's great. We had to wait nearly a year though.

    Hi Nicky

I work for Eaga who service the Warmfront grant and have worked on this grant for a few years.
We dont do double glazing - the only improvement they will make to single glazed windows is draught proofing - provided that your windows are suitable for it.

Just be aware that there are long waits for this scheme - some people have been waiting in excess of 9 months due to the demand so if things go quiet for a while, dont think youve been forgotten about.

Any questions, feel free to PM me
