Well, one of the benefits of coming back to work between Christmas and the new year is that I can use the internet!!

So.....hopefully you are all well, and have had a good Christmas break, able to spend time with friends and/or family and recharge your batteries a little. I will try and catch up with diaries, but probably won't be able to do more than a couple of days' worth, so forgive me if I have missed anything big in terms of news etc.

The last week, as I mentioned yesterday, has been a little surreal. I feel like I am in limbo a bit - partly because of the time of year, partly because of the fact I can't find the box that my wok is in (essential piece of kitchen kit!!), and partly because I can't do my new budgets yet. I know I am debt free, so want to work on my new "life" budgets but somehow it hasn't yet sunk in. I think that perhaps it won't actually do so until January's pay goes in and I can see the money in the bank with which to live, and enjoy, if that makes sense!

Until then, I am actually about as skint as normal.....due to the cost of curtains, lampshades, and general moving expenses. BUT, Christmas presents were bought without using a credit card. A little bit of sales shopping has been done without using a credit card. I am in a very different position to ever before, and I need to get used to it - after so much time being in such huge amounts of debt, it is really quite odd - like it is happening to someone else!

The house, though, is perfect - obviously still some unpacking to do and finding the right place for the right things.....and as I have unpacked some stuff, I have wondered whether I actually want to keep it at all, so will have to give that some real thought over the coming weeks. But it is the right place for us, the children are very happy - DS has had the tiniest bedroom for the last 7 years, and now has a room that is 3 times the size, meaning his mates can come round, so we have had sleepovers, and teenagers in and out, but without invading "my" space, which has been fab, all round.

And it is quite a calm place to be - relaxed and happy, and if it remains that way, it will be one of the best decisions ever made.

Still strange.....and still some "stuff" to go through, but definitely good.

  • Glad you are settling in, but there will be a lot of 'firsts' for you, which will be a bit surreal.
Re: the unpacking, rather than making decisions now, why not find a separate box and put it in with a date, say 3 months away. List whats in there so you're not tempted to buy new. If you haven't wanted the stuff when 3 months is up, then decide what to do with it.

Hypno, how lovely! You still sound a bit dazed, and stuff going on in the background - but there's still a lot to do just with moving in, I'm sure. And you have that holiday to look forward to very shortly, don't you?

    Nice to see you back!

:j:j:j Yay, Hypno is back :j:j:j

It has been soooooooo quiet without you :( Here's hoping the tinternet at home gets fixed very quickly :D

I know how weird it is to become debt free (have done it twice now, but think I have learnt this time :o)

Glad you are all settling in and that it feels like a calm place where friends can visit :T

Hope the wok turns up soon and that you find the right place for things! It is strange how it was important to keep some things until you get there and realise that it isn't important/wanted/needed anymore. More decluttering ahead me thinks ;)

Maty - much more decluttering, and it will be worth it!

following your example and spent yesterday decluttering the loft, have loads of books for the charity shop. We also have loads of videos - do charity shops take videos these days or do they only want dvds do you know?
Going to declutter my craft stuff today which willl be much more difficult to let go of. I am lucky in that because my loft is open plan and I use it regularly I try to declutter as I go or else I can't get in there
but somehow its harder to release things like books (I always think spent too much on that book to let it go)

Really like gilligansyles idea so may try that too
