Walk round the corner from the Guildford arms away for princes street on the same building there is another nice pub with old tiled plaques of 18th century intelligentsia.

  • You could take a look at Gilmerton Cove or Rosslyn Chapel where the Da Vinci Code was filmed

This thread has given me some good ideas for when I go up to Edinburgh next month. So, thanks!

I was thinking of having a day trip out of the city one day to experience a bit of Scottish countryside. Specifically, catching the train to Glasgow, then a bus out to Loch Lomond (link), heading back to Glasgow for the evening. A good plan?

The Sheep heid Inn in Edinburgh's Duddingston village, the oldest pub in Scotland is doing a real sheep head broth on monday to celebrate it's 650th birthday!

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at train and bus times and see what's possible. Any particular area I should aim for from Balloch?

Luss is very picturesque with old buildings and Viking graves in the Kirkyard - Rowardenan (sp) is more rugged and outdoorsy.
