Best insurer / broker for putting 17 yearold son with provisional on my insurance
Options
My insurance with prudential full ncd is 210 fully comp (or 110 with quidco :-) ) but now I want to put my 17 year old on so he can practice on his provisional they want 1120 ouch. Confused.com quotes a cheapest premium of an even worse 1450. Any suggestions for brokers or insurance cos - it is only a grp 4 car worth 2k.
I think....

That does sound about the going rate for a 17 year old boy. I'd consider getting him his own car and paying insurance on that. It will cost a little more in Year 1 but then NCD will kick in (hopefully).
Gone are the days of doing this cheaply. When 17, I got put on my Dad's policy in 1978 for £34 extra. That was for a Hunter GLS with a racing engine! Can I help?0 -
On one of the motoring sites i go on,there are alot of younger motorists and they often discuss insurance. Some of the companies mentioned have been Admiral, elephant and tesco.
Some companies are better for certain cars, so i can only advise that you try for a quote, costs nothing does it?:DI have also seen confused mentioned but i see you tried them with no success! There are two sides to every story.

I'd also be tempted to get him his own car, that way he builds up his own ncb, it can be a lower group and, if he does have a bump, your ncb remains intact0

I thought group 4 was low plus if it is in his name won't it be 3 times as much as he has no ncb?I think....0

sounds about right....but get him a group one car and it shouldn't be too bad, talking to some of the kids I know the cheapest is about £1200 and some are over 2k
main point i was making was he builds his own ncb and if he's one of the 30 or 50% of 18-21 year olds that has an accident then at least your ncb is safe0 -
If he is a named driver and crashes your car it will effect your NCB.
Forget everyone that says "get a insurance group one car" get a car he is happy with, my first car was insurance group 8 because I wanted something that will comfortably accelerate, on his own insurance he will not get insured on anything for less than £1k.
Just shop around for insurance, I found Churchills cheapest by far but would not recomend them and have found them completly incompetant and their customer service is horrendus.
Norwich Union were also a fairly good price and that is who I will be taking up insurance with next week when my insurance comes to the end.
PM me if you want any more infomation0
