Hello all. After standing on the scales and deciding enough was enough I thought it about time I joined an exercise class of some sort. Tried Boxercise at my local leisure centre a few weeks ago, boy did it hurt, not only in the muscles but in the pocket!! £3.80 for an hour, which may not seem like much but when doing a couple of classes a week sharp mounts up! So, I took it upon myself to contact the local boxing club, see if they do anything for the lasses. I was happy to find they did, 1 hour for the sum of two english pounds, wow!! What a bargain!! Went for first time last night and really enjoyed it, we did the exercises the fella's do and what a workout it was. So now I can go to two classes for nearly the price of one!!
So if you're looking for some exercise classes, if you jave a boxingclub near you, give them a ring its cheaper, and better than the gym!:o

We have kickboxing classes at our local leisure centre, have been wanting to go for ages, just might, or might just stick to doing my workout from home- got my weights for toning and strengthening, my abdo thingy to tone my belly up and my skipping rope.
Our classes are £4 each, the first ones free, might go for the free one and see how i go!!
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.
ROCK IT DON'T STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BE GOOD OR BE GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight0 -

does your leisure centre not do memberships? our local leisure centre you can pay £25 for a month and go as many times as you like for either excercise classes or the gym. works out quite reasonable if going 2 or 3 times a week and much cheaper than these fitness clubs.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11

A few years ago I was the British Middleweight Kick Boxing champion. It is a great way to get fit and lose a few lbs.. what I would say is not to bother with "boxercise" style classes.. it's just another fancy way of saying aerobics class.
Go to a proper class.. at first you will burn so many calories purely through being tight at the fear of getting hit. You won't get hurt.. the guys always go easy on the gals. I used to let them try and hit me and just keep them at range.
KB classes are normally cheap.. think I paid about £1.50 per class (and this is in expensive SE England!!).. you'll burn calories.. get fit.. flexible and be able to take out some of the aggression on some poor guys (unless you're a guy then you'll have to watch that aggression as I'd open a can of whoopass on ya')

I agree NastyMatt, the "boxercise" class was quite tame tbh, in comparison it was rubbish. I much prefer the boxing club, it isn't kb, its proper punchy-I'll knack ye boxing club. Although I've not set foot in the ring, yet, we still do the exercises that boxers do, which is great!!! Keep aerobics, its boring, besides I don't have any leotards that co-ordinate, aerobics is for wimmin folk that put make-up on to exercise!! Big-up the boxing!!
ps, you must be as hard as fooc!RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

They do membership packages, think i'd qualify for a corporate membership, but then you're tied for a year. Its also a poxy gym, small, not many machines, and most of the classes are run in a sweaty small claustrophobic dance gym, hall is for circuits which bore me to sit down!!Nah, two quid a class is the way for me!!RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I agree with nasty matt.
After years of being a couch potato i started martial arts, the weight just drops of you you also gain confidence to.
I dont do full contact though (i know im a chicken)0 -
I'd love to do some kind of boxing/martial art - but I'm too much of a fraidy to do it by myself and I've not yet succeeded in persuading someone to go with me!0

Its best to start on your own, you will meet new people straight away and make some new friends. If you start with someone then if they drop out you will probably to.
Go on you can do it
Which newcastle are you in? under lyme or upon tyne?0 -

I'll have to give it some more thought and maybe be a bit braver
