I think insurers are trying in on with renewals more than usual this year. I shop around every year but have always ended up renewing with the same company as it has been the cheapest or nearly so. This year they put it up massively so I shopped around and actually got it 30% less with another company. (Male driver of mid-range car with 25 years no claims).0

My last renewal was £100 more and after shopping around I didn't get the cost down but did manage to push my excess down and get no claims protection aswell as getting a few mods declared which I planned (have since done).
I do dread next years (march renewal), being 27 with 8 years no claims... I must be due a crash now since I have already paid to write off all my cars so far.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

It's not just the young male drivers getting penalised though, I'm a 30 yr old woman and have been driving crash free since passing my test 11 years ago. My renewal quote was up to £650 from £450 and when I shopped around this was the cheapest quote by £500! I have a ten year old Peugeot 206! I've looked at changing to an older and smaller car but the quotes went up to £750! I can't afford to pay this much, so I've been forced completely out of the Market as I'm going to have to sell my car altogether! Pretty crap really!
I look at the way everything like this is going, car ownership costs, university fees, healthcare etc and we are definitely moving into a rich mans world again, meaning those of us who were just hanging on at the bottom getting by paycheck to paycheck have no hope of anything past mere survival going forward....and that's if we're lucky!Debt April 2013: £38,282.35
Currently: Setting up a DMP and getting positive :j
Proud to be dealing with my debts :beer:0 -
Our quotes have always gone down. But mid 40's living in Cornwall is about as cheap as your going to get I suppose.
Fully comp protected on a people carrier is £216 (£75 excess) and My OH has a PT Cruiser and it was less than £200 fully comp protected.
We even saved money by buying through a cashback site, so my OH actually paid £125.
I am sure it will go up from what I read.
I guess a lot depends on where you live, what you do for a living.
My Older teens have not even bothered getting cars or using ours as their insurance is crippling even down hereNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
I've been driving since 1984 and have more than maximum no claims.
I've stuck with the same insurers for the past 3 years (Lloyds TSB/Churchill) because they've always offered the best prices and add-ons, but I'm still paying £309.75 for a 2003 Peugeot 206 2.0HDi LX, in which I cover less than 3000 - 4000 miles a year.
I moved half a mile closer to the centre of Oxford last year, to a property with secured off-road parking, which just happens to be about 1 minute from the main police station, my insurance went up by about 15%!
The fact that I've got secure parking, and the Police Station on the doorstep made no difference, it's all down to my postcode.
I dread to think what my policy will rise to next year, the highest quote I had this year was just short of £10000 (Yes, Ten Thousand Pounds!), and I'm 46!
There has to be a way to stop uninsured drivers, in Germany you have to have disks displayed on your number plates to prove you have insurance and a valid TüV (MOT) certificate, so they can be seen by everybody, and reported accordingly, in the UK unless the police catch people with ANPR there's no way of knowing.
I think it may be beneficial to change the driving course & test to what it is in Germany too, 6 months in the classroom before you get in a car, then when you start driving you're in cars that gradually increase in size & performance prior to your test, and Motorway driving is part of the learning curve & Test.
If similar policies were adopted over here, we would without doubt improve the driving skills, which would have the added benefit of reducing claims & hopefully the cost of policies too.
Don't forget though, when the policy prices rise, so does the government stealth tax, which they call insurance policy tax, easy money for them, tax something that we're required by law to have, so it costs us even more.
Wonder what it costs to insure a helicopter?0 -
I do wonder if it would be cheaper to insure my car in Iraq rather than Oldham.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Looking at the news your OH would be better with a Cabin Cruiser rather than a PT Cruiser0 -
Hi, my renewal quote was nearly £800 compared to £400 last year, and that was after my original insurers 'didn't offer to renew'. No claims last year or accidents. You can imagine what I told them to do! Shopped around and got it for just over £400.
Does anyone know if there is a way to find out what is causing the extortionate hikes in their local area?

How much cheaper is it for insurance for a teenager in Germany?0
