christmas elf 2010

Hi everyone,
I posted on the other thread a couple of times but thought I'd join you over here now
I have the boy Aurora doll and he is adorable! I found a ceramic sleigh in with our Xmas decs that had some Boots toiletries in that I received a few Christmases (sp?) ago. I was going to put nuts in it, but think it is far more suited as an elf's mode of transport!
The elf fits in the sleigh but is very snug so I can't fit anything else in.
He is still nameless though. I've tried a few elf name generators but they came up with some inappropriate names (such as Lucky Horny-Helper ). Another name that came up was Bouncy Sugar-Socks, so I was wondering about going for Lucky Sugar-Socks, as a combination of those two names.
I don't know if it'll be be a bit difficult for my little one to say though (she'll only be 17 months old at the beginning December). She might be OK with "Lucky".
DH's suggestion was "Bob Sleigh". I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's not very elf-like but I think DD will be able to say "Bob" as she can say "pop" and "bubble".
I also need to find a sleeping bag and make a passport. I don't think I'm going to do a journal this year, as DD will be too young to understand.0 -

hi,
welcome over here. even if your little one cant manage to say the name this year, she will be able to say it in the future. plus if you want to set up a facebook account you will need a surname. sugar-sokcs is a good option - could be a relation (cousin or something) to my girl elf merry sugarsocks!!!
my original elf bertie sleeping/travel bag is the foot of an old red xmas stocking. merry and jingle-jangle have fancy organza "bottle bags" from £1 shop which i have added few snow flakes to.
i would do a journal, even if you only put where it moved to or what it left her etc, then you have elfs full story recorded for when she is much older.due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

I will run it past DH (in case I upset him by not going with his choice of "Bob Sleigh" :rotfl:) but think Lucky Sugar-Socks is going to be his name.
Do you mind if my elf has the same surname as yours? I'll change it if you do, so please say if you'd prefer your elf to be unique.
Ooh, both of those are good ideas for sleeping bags, thank you. I need to pay a visit to town and see what I can find!
That is a very good point about the journal, I hadn't thought about the history aspect. I'll have to investigate other people's ideas for journals and "borrow" them.
Regarding the journals, do you use the same one each year, or do you have a different one for each year that the elf visits?
I don't think I'm going to have activities every day as DD is so young (and then I can save some for future years!), but she can put Lucky to bed each night. I think she'll like that as she's just started being interested in a doll and keeps putting a blanket on it!
Thank you for all your help - I've got lots to do over the next couple of weeks!0 -
no i dont mind your elf having the same surname - as long you as you dont mind my older 2 kids thinking are related elves!!!
journal - we have the same 1 every year, it was an a4 lined notebook from £1 shop which we glued elf pics to. the elf writes in it, where he is, what hes doing, IF the kids rooms need tidying etc. PLUS our kdis are allowed to write messages to the elf in it.
even as young as she is i'm sure she would notice IF the elf moved "from under the tree" etc to her cot/bed or was in her car seat/pram. you dont need to cause mischief as she is so young. it gives you few more years to think of stuff.due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

If anyone is still looking for a cheeky little chappie elf in the UK, try a store called Home Sense. I got one of mine from there, a proper elf holding a little present box, dressed in red and green, with a hat on and stripey trousers/socks. He's fab.
Last night I sent Mr Sessie upstairs at the same time as the twins went to bed (6.30pm!!) with strict instructions he couldn't come back down for ANYTHING!! I then set about creating the letters from the elves for the children with glitter, stars, glue, bells, tinsel, lametta.....
They're not perfect but I'm far from it too and I'm sure the children will be surprised and happy! Mr Sessie still has no idea, I have a cupboard almost BRIMMING with little gifts for the elves to leave each day (at 2 they are bit young for the mischief making this year) and I keep telling him he can't go in that cupboard as there's something in there for him (when there isn't at all!!) as that's the only way to keep him out. He won't spoil his own surprise --- except the surprise is, at the moment, there isn't one for him!! :rotfl:
Have to decide which day they arrive - it may need to be the weekend before December starts as Mr Sessie needs time to be home with us all when it happens and he's out before 7 each day and sometimes not back until they are in bed. It will probably be Sunday 28 November. We can't rely on either set of parents to have the children the following weekend so we can put the tree up in the living room and in their room without them knowing as my mum's having an operation and Mr S's parents are going away!! Grr, darn them having their own lives!!
I just need to lock myself in the room and sort out everything into a list of who's getting what each day (they are all Pound shop/Home Bargains things, nothing big). So now I'm starting the countdown!
(I actually bet Mr Sessie will get more of a kick out of it this year!)

Sessie your post made me laugh! Maybe your elves could get a little pressie for Mr Sessie so he doesn't feel left out:rotfl:
Well, today I've printed out Santa letter and Elf Report, just need to add ribbon. Tomorrow I'm going shopping so will hopefully get the last things I need, journal, sack, sleeping bags, art & craft bits, cadbury's elves. Gonna have a look in Wilkies plus the £1 shops. I've seen cadbury elves 3 for 50p in co-op, is this a good deal?
littlenicsmummy I really like the sleeping bag Snowy Floppy-Pie put a photo of on facebook, do you remember what shop it was from?
knithappens Hope you sort your passport out soon, I see yummy-mummy-amy has offered to help you, I'd be happy to do the same. I could print it out and send you the actual passport even. yummy-mummy-amy I didn't offer you help with yours as you'd had lots of offers already but if any don't work out I'd be happy to do it.0
