12 hrs Part time work and benefits

Hi, I have a job interview tomorrow but it is only for 12hrs per week, I currently get income support and child benefit does anyone know if I would still get benefits?? If I get the job (fingers crossed) I'll be first in line for extra hours to get me over the 16hr mark, but what would I be entitled to for 12hrs??

You'll have to earn over £43k to have child benefit stopped. Are you getting Child Tax Credit? If not, claim for it. Also you'll be able to claim CTB and LHA/HB.0

Thanks for your fast reply, I currently get:
Income support (soon to change to JSA) £65
Child tax credit £52
Child benefit £20
These are per week, I don't claim any housing/council benefits as I live with my mother.
The job I am applying for is £6 per hour, if I get the job will it just be CTC and CB I'd be entitled to - I don't need childcare0 -
there should be no change to your child benefit or tax credits however if you can find another 4 hours work a week eg doing Avon or alike then there is quite a difference

The difference of those 4hrs is £4000 per annum!! I already do Avon but not very well I didn't know you could class that as employment?0 -
As you are on IS I'm assuming you are a lone parent. You will get to keep the first £20 in wages then they will deduct £1 for £1 after that from your IS for your wages. Be careful with 12 hours as you won't get WTC.*SIGH*

Yeah that makes sense, I remember reading about not being better off by working. So for working 12hrs I should be £20 per week better off. If I get the job (in a supermarket) I'm sure they'll have extra shifts so I can bump it up to 16.

I presume and hope that you have registered as self employed with HMRC for the Avon job? If so, be honest with yourself and could you say that you spend 'time' doing your Avon work of at least 4 hours every week?
If you don't currently, try harder and get those hours up - that is until the extra hours come from the other job.
That time can be anything to do with the Avon job, telephone calls, visiting, door to door, admin etc etc. If you can say that you are doing that - then you WILL be working for at least 16 hours pw and able to claim WTC!!
It doesn't matter how many jobs you have as long as the total hours add up to 16 or more per week.

This sounds silly, but I didnt know you could claim for Avon, I am thinking of doing it but do you not have to earn some money first? Or can you just claim for the hours you put in, door knocking, admin and all of that?0

You should first register as self employed - many people who "do Avon" forget that it is income and therefore must be declared to the taxman and on benefit claims etc.
Once you are self employed all the hours spent doing Avon activities count in working week eg delivering and collecting brochures, sending off orders, keeping records of income and expenditure for the taxman etc:)0
