WE have been to Cologne Xmas markets and they are fabulous. They are set around the famous old cathederal .

    They are a must.

One of the guys I work with really recommended Nuremberg and said it's the best but he's from there so I figured he was biased! :D

It does have a good reputation for Christmas markets. Personally I have never been to a Christmas market there, but I have been to Nuremburg a couple of times in the past and it is a lovely little town, with quite a few things to do, Hitler's residence is the obvious one. But there are some nice shops and cafes, it's quite a wealthy part of Germany so the shops etc are quite upmarket.

To be honest, I really don't think you can go wrong going anywhere in Germany, all of the towns and cities have their own version of a Christmas market and most of the towns and cities are very pretty (hhhhm maybe avoid Frankfurt though as although lovely, it is a very modern business city, sort of like going on a trip to Liverpool St in London!).

  • Hi i disagree about the Christmas markets in Cologne. I really wasnt very impressed, i thought it would be local trades people selling home made/crafted goods. But i was very disappointed with them. It almost seemed like a shop or whatever had bought the rights to the stalls and were selling the products there, it all looked very mass produced and impersonal.
it is a nice area though and the cathedral looked very nice.
