Where as MAME uses copyrighted files ripped from a arcade machine therefore using MAME roms is illegal (I'm unsure whether or not it is illegal if you own that machine but i think it is definately illegal to rip them in the first place.)

There are that many false stories of copyright on games,I could easily be wrong.

I, like many many others, dont even use a legitamate copy of *windows, so I doubt owning a few MAME roms is going to cause me any restless nights.

*Disclaimer.. This could well be a lie as I use VMWare and multiple distro's within it along with dual boot *doze
I doubt very much that you will get prosecuted for downloading and using a few roms that are up to nearly 30 years old.

I remember reading a few years ago that you are legal to DL the games as long as you have the original but even then you have to remove them after 24hrs

u can any game as long as the copyright has ended for example most people use torrents ive noticed on the next so for e.g quake 2 the copyright has ended u can download it and play it leaglly

No, it hasn't. The source code for the game has been released under the GPL, but the assets used in the game (textures, sounds et cetera) are still owned by id software, based in the USA. If you want to play the game, you still need to buy a copy, just as you did when the game was originally released.

Just a quickkie, havent been able to click on link yet (work computer) but are the games Dizzy, Rainbow Island or Bubble Bobble under any of these links? Classic gaming at its (frustrating) best!
