Cost of Christmas

Just reading over a few threads has made me think about the varying amounts that people spend on their children at Christmas.

Although there are no rules to say what someone should or shouldn't spend - depending on budget, beliefs, etc......on average what do you think is a suitable amount to spend on your child at Christmas?

  • I spend very little mainly because I can atm ds will be 2 and baby will be a month old so no expectations and we've spend £11 for the 2 presents. They will also both get a present at the toddler group as that is included in the annual subsciption and I get to pick that myself from the elc catalogue for £10 each. I am sure that the amount will go up as the kids get older but I do not want to spend a fortune regardless just not what christmas is about for me.

I guess it depends on how old they are and how much you can afford.
My children are all more or less grown up now but we only have each other locally (me, OH, my mum, mum-in-law and my 3) and we are very close and spend a lot of time together. I feel I have every right to spend as much as I want and I don't have to justify it to anyone either.
Just to show the other side of the 'cost coin' - Last year they banded together to pay for a trip on the orient Express with 2 nights in a hotel and travel costs for OH and me; they arranged it all themselves and in secret.

So guess what I'm saying is, please yourself and don't worry about what others on this site do or don't think!

I probably spend more than I realise as I spend bits over the year that must add up. But then I get loads for my money! Also my LO still believes in Santa so there's that lot ot buy too.
