But for that he would fit a vokera!. Go for it if you feel that is what you want but don't skimp on the flush as any evidence of muck in the system will invalidate any warranty.

A good vailant boiler for example costs about 1k trade boiler only plus 100 for the flue and clock. Nice big copper pipe to supply it and a filter to keep it clean another 200, condensate pump costs 80 and you will need it if you cant find a continuous fall to a drain or soakaway. Five good thermostatic valves and cleaning and inhibiting chemicals is another 100. This is all installing in the same place like for like and before you put any labour, fittings and vat on it.

Not saying your quote is wrong or bad but saying that your other quotes aren't wrong because they are higher than you would like, it's like saying you need a new car and then saying bmw are overly high because they cost more than a kia.

Please do not get a Vokera!!!
We had a Vokera fitted in 2000 which gave us nothing but trouble. None of the so called Vokera technicians/engineers/bodge boys could fix it.
Two years ago, I had a Worcester Bosch fitted by a local firm, and it is great (touch wood).
They fitted the boiler, replaced one radiator and moved two radiators, all for £2.4K. Oh, and they flushed the system with chemicals and fitted some filter (??).

    That quote sounds too cheap...
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I also live in a two-bed terrace and got a quote for a new combi last week.

It was about £2300 for fitting a good combi and removing existing back boiler. No new radiators required. Could be a bit cheaper if I had a cheaper bolier but he didnt recommend doing that if I was staying in the property - I am.

This was from a plumber who has done work for me in the past that I thought was reasonably priced. He had recently changed two of my radiators and I asked whether I would need new rads with the new combi but he said no (but I would have done if I had still had the old cheap radiators installed)

So i would say that £1400 sounds cheap and would also question whether the radiators actually do need replacing.

I have no idea about heating systems but I do trust the person i got this info from.

But is your 'plumber' GSR? Plumbers are not qualified to install gas boilers-RGI's are.

  • Thanks for the advice and replies guys. I have got another guy coming tonight at 1700. I will wait till I have all quotes in writing an decide. I might just pay a local firm to power flush the old system before new system is fitted. I thought Vokera Boilers where ok, alot on line highly recomend them. The old system I have now is a Vokera Mynute 12e I think. I read that Vokera lead the market in Britain. More houses in the UK have Vokera Boilers installed than any other Boiler Brand. If we include the whole of Europe, then Valliant are miles ahead. I will be getting a mid range Vokera System, but for the sake of a few hundred quid, I might just upgrade to top of the range.

Unofficial Quotes so far for Combi instalation....

    BG £3700
    Local Gasman £2000
    Local Gasman £1400

All verbal quotes will be give or take a couple of hundered. I will receive all written quotes in the next few days.

And finally, what is the best top of the range boiler to go for.

    Regards
    Scotty

Wow some of you guys really do spout some ill informed and ill advised rubbish, virtually all your facts about bg are wrong so why on earth post something you have made up as advise?

My next door neighbour paid British gas 3k for a new boiler in the summer - The work took 2 half days and a 30 min visit from Home team.
    Based on that, costing a £400 quid B&Q boiler fitted by a VAT registered GSR tradesman at £60/hr would be 400 + (2 days x 5 hours per day) + VAT = £1,175. Add 25% net margin = £1470

We can't give you any idea on a replaement cost as we don't know what you want / need, a junk ideal / ravenheat / b&q special will cost you 400+ wheras a chp combi bg can now offer is more like 3k boiler only, we don't know the installation issues, access, supply, water pressure etc etc

    Who mentioned micro generation ?
  • Hi all.

Just had my final verbal quote done. Guy said that he will supply and fully fit a new boiler for £1350. He will install a Volkera 28HE in my Sons bedroom. He has his own website with good testimonials on it. He said he gets loads of jobs on word of mouth and price. He said he will beat any written quote I receive. He also said I wouldnt need another pump for the condensation run off. He will run a pipe under the floor boards and down the outside corner of the building. He will dig a 2ft hole and fill it with limestone. He will also fit 2 Valves onto the water intake pipes, so that I can connect a hose and let it drain into back garden, this will let me clean and pump the crap out of the system in the future if I choose.

Should I get him to install a magnetic filter onto the system. He said they do work but its upto me to choose, He said there is a new one on the market that I can clean myself. He also said that boilers in the past didnt have these filters and ran perfectly fine, but they do keep the system clean.
I will receive 4 written quotes in the next few days. I will probably choose between 2 engineers quotes.

    BG £3700
    Gasman 1 £2000
    Gasman 2 £1400
    Gasman 3 £1350

I think its between Gasman 2 and 3 at the moment. Im a happy chappy with these prices.

That looks suspiciously low to me. Do all these prices include VAT? Are all the installers GSR?
