Fatty lump near shoulder blades CAT! :-(

Ok soooo....here goes.
We have just adopted a former stray cat. He is called Gilbert and is 13 and half. He seems to have some sort of Siamese or Bengal in him. Very pointy! He is a tabby and just GORGEOUS. Cuddly, lap cat, sleeps and snuggles with us, gets on well with house bunnies even though they are too active for him!
Anyway, we took him to vets on 11th October for check up and injections. He had Nobivac Tricat Trio and Nobivac FeLv. At that point we weren't sure if he was going to be a house cat or an outdoor cat so we went for the lukemia one. Wasn't aware of apparent risks at that point in time.
Ok so here is my worry.
Today I discovered a small lump near his shoulder blades probably at point of injection site. Its larger than a pea but smaller than a marble. You can move it around with your fingers and also get two fingers nearly around it and move it around. It moves position depending on how he is sitting. He isn't bothered by us touching it and purrrssss - typical him!
So I am worried as:
1) I have read all the stuff on the internet (mistake)
2) Just want to know its one of the following:
-injection reaction. Have read on the manufacturers website that a fatty nodule can occur up to 15 days after the injection.
- perhaps his microchip - yup he has an old style one as he was done in 1998! Old boy!
3) Spoken to vet who says its probably reaction but she hasn't examined but I trust her - good friend.
4) Spoken to vet who said keep an eye on it but I was insistent on bringing him in. He doesn't mind the vet. Often rolls over for vet to tickle tummy!
So...long story short - I have an appointment on Friday. We will see what happens. I read LouLou's story from on here and heard about blood tests etc etc! How did the cat do? I hope all good?
I AM TERRIFIED!!!!Help and calming words would be good - or any other knowledge welcome.
I love him and he is my baby!
Also, does anyone know any tips for stopping him meowing at night? Bless him.

Not asking for medical advice by the way. I have some sense and going to vets!
I am looking for other people who have been in same situation as myself - just for comfort really!0 -
Could well be the microchip, you can feel them and move them around.0

Most likely to be a slight injection site reaction as so close to the vaccination etc. Should go away on its own after a period of 3-4 weeks. If its still there, or its getting larger, def go to the vets0

We just had our two rescue kittens vaccinated ,and one of them developed a lump on the back of his neck,as Kvet says it has disappeared after three weeks.
kittens lively and happy no problem whatsoever.

Hi - as per other posts, chances are it will disappear after a few weeks. I would monitor it closely and also see your vet. If you're able to measure it, that might be worthwhile whilst you're monitoring.
If it doesn't go down though (and I am guessing from your first post that you've read about FelV vaccs and links to VAS) ask your vet to be referred to a specialist. As VAS is very aggressive, any surgery or biopsy of that nature should really only be undertaken by a specialist.
Please try not to worry though, although we've been unlucky, VAS is rare in the UK and the chances are your cat's lump is a slight inflammatory reaction that will go down. x0 -
Hello
Im guessing you were refering to one of my previous posts??
My cat was fine, they couldnt find anything wrong at all, so was just put down to a slight reaction to injection - this was last year.
When i had her boosters down this year the same thing happened again and as it (again) a few days after boosters, i took a watch and wait attitude, and after a couple of weeks it had completely gone.
Im sure it your cats problem will turn out to be just a similar reaction, but your definatley doing the right thing getting any lump checked out : )0 -
Take your cat to the vet. Do not listen to people on a forum who claim to be vets advising you to leave it 3-4 weeks. Although I know KVet means well, we have no way of knowing who is and isnt an actual vet and I dont think we want to encourage 'weirdos who like to pretend' into posting here! (Not saying KVet isn't a vet but still, all medical advice is banned on this forum)
As for the meowing at night.... I'd like to know this too. I've never found a solution and as a result I've not slept for years!!What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Hi Walshj77 - how did your appt go today? Fingers crossed all is ok and the lump has started to go down.
My boy is like yours when we're at the vet. When he has his 6 monthly check ups at his oncologist, he's a complete tart! I'm sure one day, she's going to try and sneak him home with her!
Hope all was ok.0
