  • Hi, I really fancy the idea of making chutneys and jams for people as xmas gifts, I have never done this before, so is there a basic recipe to follow for both of them and then you just change the fruit/flavour, or does anyone have any recipes for them or know where i can find any?

    Any help greatly appreciated :)
  • Nickinoodle - Just found this which may be of some help: Chutneys

hi, can I share my fab christmas deal? I had a skirt in the wardrobe that was too small (ive been on a diet), I bought it in tesco last month for £15, so I took it back today and swapped it for 13 childrens top and a tracksuit in the sale they were all half price in the sale then 20% off again so in all the total came to 80p today. so all the children in the family have new tops for christmas, I bought a set of books in the book club sale for £10 so I'm splitting that and looking for some cheap pencil cases in the sale and filling with pencils I bought in the tesco back to school sale for 24p, Im thrilled as they get nice presents for next to nothing. So watch this space for further mega bargain hunts.

  • Last night I went all out and placed a massive order of toiletries at boots.com. My order cost £100.50 with hopefully 6.5% cashback from Quidco and 2400 points with the blip in their system last night! Got loads and loads of stuff to make up 3 hampers. 1 for Mil and one each for my 2 grandmothers. I bought a set of 3 wicker baskets on ebay costing £6.70 (£2.23 each) and a 80cm x 10m roll of florists cellophane for £4.50. The whole boots order was not all for hampers so all in all the 3 hampers should work out around £20 each including the deduction of cashback and boots points. I know that technically I have had to pay out £24 instead of using the points but the points will come in handy anytime for birthdays etc :) Am I mad or does this work out good? Never done hampers before

EDIT: Also I had a rake through my draws and I have loads of samples and minatures that I can add in and even wrap some stuff for others.

My local Poundland is not that local and they never seem to have any of th great bargains you guys talk about
  • Not sure how much of a bargain this is ( having trailled round town all day looking for wicker baskets) ive just been to tesco extra and got 2 sets of wicker baskets (2pk) with fabric liners for £3.93 each they also had plastic baskets for 47p each thought these would be good for the neices and keep the wicker ones for the grown ups. Any ideas for what to put at the bottom of the baskets i thought of shredded crepe paper or christmas paper what does everyone else use.

When i done one for my mum last year i put crepe paper at the bottom
and to finish it off i bought a ready made bow for £1 from the florists
It really finished it off and looked very posh and christmasy as it was red and gold

Homejames, last year I did a hamper for my mum and dad and I filled the bottom with scrunched up christmas tissue paper, from poundland, it pads it out a bit then you just lay all the bits and bobs on the top. I then got some christmas cellophane from the local florist and did it with a bow on top. Hope that helps.
