£89 for all that avoid at all costs

you only have to pay for the parts at the standard garage prices.

And theres where they have you. It'll be non discounted full retail prices. Even for the 'free' air conditioning check, they're not including the price of the gas if it needs regassed, so miraculously that will come to 30 quid in itself.

An HPI check probably costs them a couple of quid, and its only one free, so next time they'll bill you for 35 quid.

The seasonal check, no doubt the antifreeze will need topped up.

I think ultimately you're paying 89.99 to be locked in to paying full whack on all parts.

As someone else has said, its the KwikFit scam all over again.

A couple of garages near me offer MOTs at £25, so you just know they're going to find problems in the pre MOT check, given that the test itself will cost more than that. Favourites are failed light bulbs at £10 a pop, which is just a little steep for a sidelight! Plus, if the owner says they were all working when he delivered it, "bulbs can fail at any time."
Someone else I heard of took his car there and they told him it needed extensive work including brake discs, pads, handbrake cable and catalytic converter in order to pass. He immediately took it somewhere else and it passed with just an advisory on the handbrake cable.

  • If somethings too good to be true then it usually is! My other half bought a 3 year old corsa from Quicks/Evans Halshaw & they tried to sell us a 2 year service & MOT for £299 we declined then he harps up 'why have you declined I'm sure you can't get a better deal anywhere' then I said 'aye it's a good deal but what if the MOT fails? You'll ramp the cost up for repairs, parts & labour'! Seriously if I was you I'd find myself a decent local garage one which is preferably busy & in the 'good garage scheme' and use them! If you use them often they'll get to know you & your car & because their desperate for repeat business they won't rip you off! We were recommended by the AA man who came out when my OH's gears seazed up if the AA guy recommends them then they must be good!
  • For a laugh I have just entered one of my spare mobile numbers on that site. Will see what they come back with....

There's a saying that you'll see on most posts like this... if it looks too good to be true it probably is.

now while some of us quite like getting a 2008 Wii game for a fiver we can understand that they're selling it for a fiver because it's old and taking up room in the stockroom.

However if someone offers you their TIME for a knockdown price then it makes sense to be suspicious... if a hairdresser was doing haircuts for £1 would you have one? Probably if it was a gimmick in a new salon and for opening day only, but if they offered £1 haircuts year round you'd expect to walk out looking like you'd had a fight with a hedgetrimmer.

I'd steer clear, common sense tells you no-one can cover their costs on that one and still pay someone minimum wage for their time.;)
