Why not have him neutered now? He's plenty old enough, I had my boy done at 6 months, stops all sorts of problems.
  • its not as easy as that for me, finding the money to get him done is very difficult at the moment..... i only wish i could get him done now!

thanks for the advice tho caroline.:D

Sorry - had my girl done at 6 months too as Caroline's boy...

Not sure what can you do with unneutered male and female at home and I choose not to ask why do you have 2 dogs if you have financial issues to neuter them... sorry

why do you have 2 dogs if you have financial issues to neuter them...

It may not be an answer to the original question, but I was wondering exactly the same thing - I know circumstances change from time to time, but surely, you should take into account neutering costs BEFORE you bring the dog home, and have the money there READY for when the time comes.

That's what we did anyway, when we knew we'd be having a male and female dog in the house...

In answer to your question, OP, I think there is very little you can do about your dog's stress levels, while-ever you have the female still around him, aside from keeping the crates in different rooms, and maybe using child safety gates to separate them, as being crated for long periods will be stressing him even more...

  • Is there anyone who could look after him until her season is over? Our boy gets very agitated when the girls in the street are in season, never mind the same house! It is very stressful for your boy (he is just doing what he is designed to do!) and one small lapse in attention and you could end up with a litter of unwanted pups from a too young mum. I'm sure it will be stressful for her too as she cannot fully escape from him before she is 'ready' and then will be stressed at being apart from him when she is.

Are you on housing or council tax benefits? The PDSA can provide treatment for a donation (you could pay as you have it to make sure you give a decent amount) - although they are not 'sick' - it would be certainly detrimental if she ended up pregnant at such a young age. If not, could you speak to the vet and make an agreement with them to get him done asap and to pay a set amount over a longer period? Although not ideal they might agree as it will stop future problems. You can then save up to get her done without the problems of him going mental during her season.

Could you not have the male neutered free if you're on a low income? There are often promotions locally for free neutering and/or microchipping.

Hi natasha, I guess your poor boy is very stressed at the moment, I would put the crates in different rooms if you can. Maybe one upstairs? At least you are keeping them apart, puppies from a girl at only 8 months old is asking for trouble so good on you for keeping them apart. Please remeber to put a padlock on both crate doors, an intire male can and will open a crate to get at a female on heat.

Please ring the Dogs Trust and ask about their voucher scheme, they are usually happy to help. With the voucher it will cost you £25 per dog.

In London its mayhew animal home Neutering bull breeds for free

    http://www.mayhewanimalhome.org/dogs/ourservices/index.php

At The Mayhew, we offer Bull Breed Neutering free of charge and are grateful to the support of Animal Friends Insurance who contribute to the running of this scheme. Please note that to be eligible for the free Bull Breed neutering, your dog must have the physical characteristics of a Bull Breed. If your dog is not deemed to be a Bull Breed type you will be charged for the procedure and our Animal Care Managers decision is final on this subject.
  • id just like to thank everyone for all there advice. But those of you who question why i have so many dogs if i cant afford to neuter them, well at the end of the day that is my preference and has nothing to do with anyone else. My dogs are well looked after and have a happy home, unlike some poor animals out there........ all i wanted was some advice and i have been made to feel like a bad pet owner.

as we speak he is having his bits chopped off, so that might make some of you happy!!!!
