I'm assuming you had a step account & then was accepted for a current plus account - this would have meant a brand new account number & they would have issued you with a new card & this would have either been a solo card or a maestro card, whichever the system advised at the time of opening this new account. Having said that, as you've had this new account for 6 months its possible for the cashier to just check the screen to see if a maestro card is recommended, this doesn't involve a credit check, the computer system has in place a screen that states what the customer has at present in the way of card, o/d facility & personal loan & what the customer could have if they require it. Also, a maestro card is usually only issued when a salary is sent direct to the account, if not its only a solo card - hope this helps0

Yes, that's it exactly. I do now have my salary paid into the account by BACS, so I'll call them and see if they can upgrade my card. Cheers:T0

I ordered a maestro card when I turned 18 and they didn't perform any external checks on me, they must have just looked at the account history. The same went for my overdraft, I applied for an overdraft of £1000 and was accepted immediately with no checks just account history.0

Well, a quick update, I asked at the branch, but unfortunately the system didn't "recommend" a Maestro card for me, so I'll give it a couple of months and ask again. Bizarrely though the system did give me a £2k overdradt facility :rotfl:0
