Anyone here work for a bank?

I wonder if anyone here works for a bank and could advise me on whether Natwest will upgrade my bank card without doing an external credit check?
Brief bit of background, I've been with Natwest for about seven years. I had some problems with a few missed payments a couple of years back, which left me with one default on my file. I had a basic account (Step) which I tried to upgrade a few times to a normal current account but was refused. About six months ago they did upgrade me to a normal current account (so I was credit checked) but only given a Solo card.
Question is, now that I've got the current account, not a basic account, will they still credit check me before I can get a Maestro card, or will they just look at my financial history and behaviour with them, and how I operate the account.
Any insights gratefully received!

Possibly again, they sometimes just look at how you've been wheter good or bad, and sometimes I've heard banks say that they haven't seen enough usage of your Solo card transactions, so use it often.
BTW, I don't work for a bank, just giving my opinion.

If you call your branch, they should be able to tell you whether or not you currently qualify for a debit card...they should have this information on their systems as most banks do.
Hope this helpsIf you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0 -
Thanks for your replies folks. I hadn't even considered the idea that they might want to see more transactions on my existing card...I normally either use cash or a credit card, as I don't like being seen out in public with the Solo card :mad:0

I don't know about Natwest's systems but I'm sure some checks are invol, ved - otherwise everyone would have a full facilities account regardless0

If you apply to upgrade your basic account to the full account with natwest they WILL carry out a credit check on you. This is for 100% of all cases. For everthing else there's mastercard.

They did credit check me six months ago when I upgraded from a basic account to a normal current account, just not sure if they need to do the same to upgrade just the card.
Although I suppose although it's just upgrading a card on the same account, as I already have an unused chequebook if they gave me a cheque guarantee card it would give them a potential liabilty of about £3k if I went mad with cheques, so they might well want me to pass a credit check...0 -
I work for a bank (though not that one) and we don't credit score you for upgrading solo to maestro. It's all internal checks, e.g a salary mandated each month of a certain amount, no returns or paid guaranteed on acct within a certain timescale, a certain level of internal behaviour score.
Phone telephone banking and ask them but it's probably the same idea...0 -
