Took day off and returned to find member of staff taken away from me

I just want to check on what procedure should have been followed here. I had a day off and returned to find that the member of staff I managed was now reporting directly to the director as I do myself.

I believe I should have been consulted prior to this being signed, sealed and delivered and not confronted with it as being a done deal. I should be grateful for opinions on this.

I don't think that there is much you could do. Why do you think you should have been consulted?
  • I left work for the weekend and returned to find that I had been effectively demoted. I just feel that it would have been courtesy to consult me prior to announcing the decision and not have it presented to me as a fait accompli!

You're not demoted as such, just the staff member has to report to someone else. have you asked why yet?

In the words of the employment solicitor I usually consult with issues such as this... "Its their company, they can do what they like".

Like it or lump it, its the truth.

I dont even see that you have been demoted.
What makes you think you have.

You have l less staff to manage but that doesnt mean demotion.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Or simply that your colleague / assistant / whatever has been promoted?

Or decided they did not want to report to you anymore:eek:
  • Its not a demotion as such but I certainly would be questioning my own position when someone is clearly not happy with my management.

They're not your personal property you know. Besides, an empire of one is not ... well ... anything to get worked up about is it?
