Sky TV - Getting my package cheaper.

Hello. I currently pay around £55-60 a month for my sky package, this includes everything, HD package, Sky Sports & Movies.
I watch Sky Sports all the time, Movies less so. But getting rid of just Movies only drops my package by a few quid,
I've now been with Sky a year and people i know are paying alot less than i'm paying.
Is there a way to go about getting it cheaper?

Hello,
Now that BT and the likes have the to ability to offer Sky Sports. Sky are trying to be as competitive as possible with standard packages. Unfortunatley, Sky seem more and more reluctant to offer discounted "one-off" packages to individuals. Sky see themself as a pioneer; first to offer HD, 3D etc. Because of this they "justify" their prices.
However,
The way you used to be able to get a cheaper package is to ring up the Customer Support line and tell them you are thinking about leaving as BT (or anon) is offering a better, cheaper package. You tell them that you are happy with Sky services apart from the cost. Because of the current financial climate you are cutting down.. etc etc.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It is worth a go. If you don't ask, you don't get.
Good luck.

I've found Virgin very expensive (been tied into it in rented houses). We're just about to buy, and I got Sky to do a comparison and it came out about £15 a month cheaper. From what I gather - both have equally irritating call centres anyway.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

you lucky people
we have had a letter from them today saying that as we recently downgraded our package they have offered us movies and sports 6 months half price, phoned to take them up on it and they said that offer has finished and there are no offers on your account,
rec letter today addressed to me and offer ends 10th December
i would threaten to close the account, but knowing our luck they would do it, and we have not other services here apart from freeview0 -
i currently pay £73.50 for sky, espn, multi-room and broadband. Just phoned SKY saying that i had to watch the pennies and that SKY had to go.
Engaged in pleasant conversation with the guy about football, Christmas etc.
Too cut a long story short he confirmed next months bill will be £29.50 and that my sky package will be half price for the next 6 months.
Be nice and you will be rewarded.

I moved house around 3 months ago and cancelled Sky at the time for purely financial reasons.I took my box with me, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the communal dish in my new flat enabled me to continue watching Sky until my month's notice was up.
Luckily I have had my mail redirected, as I had a letter from Sky inviting me back with a half price deal until Nov 2011.As I'm cricket mad I phoned them today and took the variety pack and sports for £19.50 per month. The service was put on immediately, and the fella on the phone even informed me that there is no minimum contract term, I can cancel at any time by giving 35 days' notice in writing.AND I get £50 M&S vouchers. The promotion code for this is M&S1.
Congratulations Sky, from a very satisfied customer.:beer:0
