I tried to put petrol in from a asda pay by card pump... My Santander card declinded... there is over 100 pound in the account and no bills are due out this month... so i tried a cash point (lloyds) the point told me that the card issuser had declinded the transaction... so i went to a Santander cash point.. this one still declinded to give me money but also would not let me look at my balance or anything, the reason on this atm was that they could not contact the card issuer :-/ i used to be a A&L customers before Santander took over this is my 3rd card already... i have been on the website to request a new card and this was declined to... I have tried to ring customer services a few times but on hold for over 20min! (0845 number to!!)
anyone had similar problems ??

Sounds like you most likely have what's known in the company as a 'Sticky Referral' (aka: a temporary block). The reasons for them going on aren't really known in-depth at a branch level, so try giving card services a call on: 0845 602 1582
The same team deal with credit cards on this number, so stress you want them to look at your debit card. Alternatively pop into a local branch, advise them you have what appears to be a block on your card and they can put you through to card services themselves.
Hope that helps.0 -

This free number should work 0800 808080. Save you paying while you wait for customer service.0

I had a similar thing happen at the beginning of the month.
I had tried to use my expired card to pay for something. Realised my error and then paid with my new card.
After that, paying for things was hit and miss. Initially I thought the card was faulty as one cashier seemed to get it working by cleaning the chip contact area before processing the transaction, but upon trying to pay for fuel at a pump, it would not accept the card.
Ended up on the phone to card services in the fuel station who issued an authorisation code to the cashier, but it still would not work Luckily I had cash.
I phoned the card Customer Services (Cahoot but they are all Santander now) who advised the card was blocked for suspected fraud activity. They cleared the card whilst I was on the phone and it has worked fine since.-=Mr-J=-0 -
the reason the stop will be placed is because santander need to confirm certain transactions with you that have been made on the card. there may be some potentialy fraudulent transactions ,the stops placed as a precaution just incase its not you. give card services a call stated in the previous posts and theyll run through it with you and unblock the card or refer to fraud dept if the transactions are not you.0

Right, after spending 15mins on the phone to san, they told me this..... there is a block on the card, there is no reason why the block should be on and they can not take the block off... so i have to move all my account money out of this account and into another until they issuse a new card and change the pin for my card/interent account... just incase someone has hacked it!!
so until my money clears into my natwest account i have didaly sqat... oh but i get get £5 into my account for a 15min phone call to a 0844 number off a mobilethanks!
