why is my car insurance so damn high

Just been looking at quotes, I cant believe my eyes

I havent been driving anything for a year, yet I have held a full UK license for 6 years now. I am 28.

Just for a 2.0l engine my quotes are coming back between £800 if I pay in full to 3 bloody grand! Never seen the like!

Any ideas?

Car insurance has gone up a lot, it is expected to go up even more soon. I wish my car insurance was £800 for a 1.0l. I am a 20 year old male, no chance.

P.S. Have a look at changing parts of the quote, i.e. third party fire & theft rather than fully comprenesive.

Third party fire and theft can now be more expensive than a comp policy according to the AA.

  • I just cant understand it. I was paying £88 quid a month when I was 20, I thought that was outrageous but some of the quotes I am getting are asking £123 a month!
Ive never had an accident either.

There's actually a parliament discussion today with the transport committee on the dramatic rise in car insurance premiums. Could be interesting... linky

I feel your pain! I'm 31, been driving 2 years with no claim/points etc and am currently paying £557 for a 1997 306 1.4l. Was thinking of getting a newer car as I'm not sure if mine will pass it's MOT next year and was quoted £800 for a 2001 1l Saxo

Get a car with a smaller/less powerful engine.

Assume you have used price comparison sites as detailed on the insurance tab on this website?

Lower your annual mileage, add an experienced named driver (mum or dad), increase your excess (assuming you can afford to pay this if you do need to make a claim). Remove policy extras such as legal cover and hire car (again only if you can live without a hire car if yours is off road).

If still too expensive consider a car with a smaller engine.

  • If you add your parents onto your insurance it might lower the cost.

last year i paid £300 for my car, an 02 plate toyota...this year i was quoted £600:eek:...this was the best quote the company(which has been consistantly the cheapest for the last 4 years) could get me .... i have been driving for 28 years never had a bump:mad:...

after some fiddling and checking all the sites on here the lowest i could get was £480:eek::eek::eek:....then......i added my friend on to my policy and even though she has only been driving for 5 years the cost dropped to £298....

so the outcome of this sorry tale is, in my case ..to become a (fake)lesbian (mother will be pleased!!) so what i would like to know is.....
WHY ARE SINGLE PEOPLE SO DISCRIMINATED AGAINST WITH CAR INSURANCE ??

surely if there are two of us driving the same car there is twice the chance of having an accident than with just little old me on my own..(especially as my mate is a really crappy driver)...
why do i have to be half of a couple in order to get a decent quote?? outrageous and discriminatory surely.....
