Hi
As per title. I want to build my own website, nothing fancy about 3-5 pages and I'd like total control and somewhere where I can edit the text and up load photos.
Is there any free software out there I can use that does a half decent job?
Have looked at WordPress but having trouble downloading it this evening

I built one once using Lycos or a site they use, it was a few years ago now so not sure if it is still going, they had tools to help you if you were not familiar with these things, I built a fairly reasonable site.0

Wordpress should be easy to setup (If you can get it to download).
There are loads of free templates out there that you can use to set up your site.
Or
Create an account on "wordpress.com" it's free hosting for wordpress sites you can set up a site to test things out.Laters

Would say avoid 1and1 at all costs, they're a nightmare to cancel with and then they try send debt collectors after you have cancelled and paid up to date. (Seriously! I got a letter from a debt collection agency saying i needed to pay £10 for a domain i cancelled 2 years ago!)
what you want the website for? I may be able to help as I have a server sitting at work doing little currently all you need is a domain name.
You mentioned wordpress, if you just go to wordpress.com you can setup a free one there.0 -
I've got a domain (~£3/yr) with 123-reg.co.uk and free hosting from zoka.cc.
If you just want a few basic pages, it might be easier to learn a bit of HTML instead of a web-design package. It's the only way to get complete control over the content of your site! There's a great tutorial at w3schools.com...0 -
I have found google pretty goodyou can redesign their templates and its easy to run0

If you want varied content and to grow it to something more fab in future have a look at Drupal Gardens as you really can plug and play, as it were, and have a great site quickly and easily.
Instructions are clear, it looks good, it is free to use PLUS it will give you a domain name and host it for free if you don't mind having DG in the address!
