Has anyone bought any from Lidl, their selection packs were £4.99 and £14.99 I wondered whether I'd get away with the £4.99 one and some sparklers.

never had the small box, but i have had the big one. it's brilliant and well worth £14.99. You get fountains, cakes, candles, mines, rockets and a wheel.
  • does lidl have the fireworks on BOGOF?

i read on a different forum that they did
  • No - Lidl fireworks are not BOGOF.

They do however have some excellent prices, both the selection boxes are very good value and the Gold Medal rockets are an absolute bargain at £4.99. The multi-shot launchers - 'Cosmo's and 'Raimbow Storm' are both very good value.

Having sampled many of the supermarket offerings I now always buy the bulk of my fireworks from Lidl with a few extras from Morrissons to top up. Hope this helps.
  • Let off the purple moon selection box and some "cosmos" cakes from Lidl yesterday. Purple moon is pretty much what you would expect from a selection box for £4.99. All fountains apart from two Roman candles. Fountains struggle to get more than about 6 inches of sparks.

However the cakes are a totally different story. £4.99 each for 32 shots. I let two cakes off at the same time as my fireworks displays are renowned for being pants (running joke within my family). 64 excellent stars went skyward lasting about 20-30 seconds. Not outrageously noisy but mix of crackles, bangs and starbursts. I was expecting very little from these cakes as you tend to get owt for nowt however I would heartily recommend these to anyone wanting a garden display on the cheap. I will definitely be buying these again next year.

    Enjoy

I have previously had Lidl packs and found them great. This year I went for the garden fireworks from Morrisons (Silver Leopard and Silver Tiger BOGOF £27 for the pair) and what a waste of money they were. They all looked very similar except the catherine wheel which didnt spin around and the whistling cuckoo which whistled once! A waste of time and money the kids were asking when they could go inside. Hope someone learns from my mistakes!
  • I went firework shopping today and here is my report. I can't report on how impressive the fireworks look because our party is on Saturday and hence any comments will be too late to be helpful to anyone this year.

I went to four stores Asda, Aldi, Lidl and Homebase. I wanted some biggish multishot roman candles/fountains, some single ignition cakes and some rockets. I want a display which is quite impressive but not too long so my guests can all get back inside and stuff themselves before they get bored.

Firstly I went to Asda as I was pretty sure I had bought decent fireworks from them in the past. Result: "hmm is that the range?" I left.

Next Aldi: Bought Lord of the Nights selection box of I think four roman candles for £19.99 - this is a heavy box, and a set of nine Memphis rockets - they look big and hopefully they will impress.

Then Lidl: Bought Haley's Comet Cake £9.99, quite heavy and a Rainbow Storm cake for £4.99 - I recall we had one of these in years gone by, quite good I think.

Then Homebase: I went there because I had heard they were doing BOGOF and I had a £10 voucher from the Great Shed Fiasco. I usually find it impossible to find anything to buy in Homebase so fireworks seemed a good way to use up the voucher. I bought a £9.99 cake and a set of 6 rockets BOGOF. Well the assistant seemed very keen on getting the fireworks in the bag without me seeing them. When I got home I can see why, they are tiny! The cake weighs beggar all and rockets are tiny, £9.99 my backside!

I will if I remember post an after-party report on what they looked like to help for next year.

    I recently went to a wholesale place in Manchester and got;
A Dancing Red Devil Platinum Premium Display Rocket Assortment Pack £60 should be £150!
A Diamond Platinum Selection Box £60 should be £90!
AND to round off a HUGE Diamond Eruption 4000 Shot Roman Candle Cake Barrage at £45 should be £70!
All those should make for a super display!
The 22 rockets in the pack are in various sizes from medium large extra large to XXL for the 4in ballhead rockets and have four launch tubes,
The fireworks in the box are mainly Cat2(Diamond Fireworks have downgraded a lot of their material from Cat3 25m ratings because they were a bit piddling tame and gentle at 25m away to say the least),
And the cake barrage is a HUGE thing;this either needs burying to the line on the side in a plastic bag in case the ground is wet or earth is soggy OR gaffataping to a wooden stake driven into the ground(which is my preferred method).
Whats the wholesalers called and do they sell to the general public? I had Dancing Red Devil selection boxes and rocket a couple of years ago and they were fantastic. I've been trying to get hold of them this year but not had much luck.
  • Looking to buy for Saturday.

    Anyone know of discounted/BOGOF??

(work 8-6 so needs to be a large retailer open late!!)
