The Great Cheap, Safe Fireworks Hunt

  • Fair enough - I completely know what you mean with organised displays being crowded etc. Fiver each is quite steep as well.

I still wouldn't even bother with the hassle of buying them - watch all the neighbours displays or chip in and do a joint one if you have to, it would work out cheaper.

My kids are happy watching the neighbours fireworks from the bedroom windows or we take the car out to a hill nearby and watch from there as you can see some of the big displays in the city. Costs me zilch. Kids have never known any different and do not expect me to buy them.
  • Information on Latifs deals, here is this year flyer - apparently much more in store.

I'm looking to buy some, any of the deals look really good? The Prince selection box (BOGOF) was quite good last year, many mini cakes, I thought quite reasonable for the money.

    Hi,

Sorry dont know weather Tesco have fireworks, they probably will have, but normally over priced Imo, so I would wait til its confirmed what they have lol.

Meanwhile I have the Asda & Sainsbury leaflets; (Sorry about quality of the pics!)

    Front page: Asda

    2nd Page

    3rd Page

    Sainsbury's:

Again, really sorry for the quality but it gives you an Idea of prices e.t.c for now! ;)

    Sainsbury's deals are a con! £39.99 for 13 fireworks? I think not.

    Standard's website
    http://www.blackcatfireworks.ltd.uk/fireworks/standard/selection-boxes/?id=249
shows for £19.99 you get 20 fireworks, £39.99 buys 33 (larger ones)

    The cakes

    £15, tops.
  • We will either go to a display locally, or not bother with fireworks; bonfires & glowsticks are fun, but fireworks are absolutely terrifying for animals, & we'd hate to cause them more distress.
  • Awesome i just won 900pound on the irish lottery last night with 3 numbers so looks like a visit to latifs the weekend :T :j

See this article on a fireworks factory accident in China. I used to write for a monthly newsletter on engineering safety, and we published something similar in almost every issue.

I know exports create jobs and prosperity for Chinese people, but in this case you might prefer to spend a bit more money on European-made fireworks that are much less dangerous to the people who make them. A shame, because the Chinese ones do give a lot of bang for your buck.
  • PLEASE READ THE LABEL OF YOUR FIREWORK !!!

There are two types (Categorys) of firework that the public can legally purchase:

1 GARDEN. These have a safe distance to stand of at least FIVE meters away.

2 DISPLAY. These have a safe distance to stand of TWENTY FIVE meters away.

PLEASE PLEASE make sure you read the label. (if it's not there it's illegal)

Don't let anybody be yet another sad statistic.

IF IN DOUBT STAND AT LEAST 25 METERS AWAY FROM ANY FIREWORK !!!!

Has anyone bought any from Lidl, their selection packs were £4.99 and £14.99 I wondered whether I'd get away with the £4.99 one and some sparklers.
