I agree with your comment on the rockets looking too good . looks like some very good filming going on there ,as you can see they are zooming in on the bursts ,but I would love to have that camera whatever it is and some of the cameramans skill.

UKFR is a brilliant website for anything fireworks related, definitely recommended, especially if you are hoping to buy from a proper fireworks shop rather than supermarkets!

Lidl list also has videos. Sadly as a newbie here I'm apparently not allowed to post links, but just google Lidl and the fireworks selection is on the links along the top....

The rockets are best avoided, very weak. Ipanema is a popular little cake, and well priced in the 3 for £20 offer. Firefighter also sells well, and voodoo star which was new last year is ok for the money. Not amazing effects, but I fired one last year and it was suprisingly loud.

And remember, supermarket fireworks are often made specifically for the supermarkets to a price. If it's listed as BOGOF it was never intended to be sold at the original price and you really do get what you pay for.

If you can find a year round supplier near you, your money would be much better spent with them. If anyone wants to know if there's one near them, just let me know and I'll do my best to find one for you!

I agree with what you say, but a quick word on all year suppliers.
I have 2 near me ,both brightstar dealers, though 1 is selling other stuff also this year .I often read on forums that brightstar can be bought bogof, or near half price .In the years I have known these dealers ,rarely do they offer anything at half price ,and 1 of them seems to make up prices as they go along.
My advice to anyone looking for fireworks, shop around. garden centres ,discount stores ,party shops, look online ,whatever, or come on forums like this and ask.

Nothing very exciting but I will probably buy a few of the £5 items if they do in fact do the voucher again this year.


Credit to sainsbuys this year for including safety distances on the leaflet something which the other supermarkets don't seem to address much.

The new CE regs seem great, a lot of items that could not be classified at 5m so had to be classified as 25m display fireworks are now included in the 8m classification.

For example the last few years those shot tubes have always been 25m fireworks, this year just 8m and I bet they are no different. Same for most of the cakes that are now being sold

I had a few cat 2- new range items last year such as Royal Party's Little stars and they were absolutely brilliant and out performed some of the 25m stuff.

Lots lots better considering more people are likely to have 8m of space than 25m :j

I had some of the new 8m stuff this year;and the performance is absolutely phenomenal! I have seen a brilliant cake in action that proves 8m garden fireworks are the new BS7114:magnum's treasure chest is a great example of what can be achieved within limits being loosened, the noise effects and quality way transcend that expected of an 8m firework with lots of power lots of spectacle and good quality performance to boot too!

Royal Party's Gunpowder Treason Selection Box is another good example of quality performance and value featuring lots of good 8m fireworks and some cracking 25m fireworks as well;it's a great selection box to buy.
