BBC Iplayer help.

Hi.

I currently have Freesat from Sky using a Pace sd box. Im about to get a HD Iplayer ready tv.

I've got a Netgear DG834G Ver 4 router which is in another room at the side of my computer, from where the tv will be.

I was intending to use two Homeplug adapters with ethernet cables one at the router and one at the tv to connect to Iplayer etc.

I've now discovered that I need a minimum 1mbps to get content to the tv. I've done a BB speedtest and get the following results.

Download 8126kbps and upload 957kbps. I realise Im going to have to upgrade something but I'm unsure of what route to go down.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone out there could give me the best advice as to which way to go to obtain decent downloaded content to the new tv.

Thanks in anticipation and regards. Allen.

PS. C'ant get Freeview in this area at present.

If I'm honest, 8Mbs is pretty good - although you're right - whilst it streams normal iPlayer ok, I'm not sure about HD? I'm on 12Mbs and even that is a bit choppy!

I can't think of anything that you can do - you're using ethernet which is of a decent speed compared to wireless anyway. The only thing I can think of is to upgrade to cable?
  • Hi.

Thanks for the reply. When I do the speed test it comes as 8126kbps not mbps which I've assumed was a weaker of the two? As regards the cable upgrade, we c'ant get that at present. Regards Allen.

8126Kbps is (near enough) the same as 8.126Mbps.
8 Mbps download should be more than adequate to stream to your TV, but what speed HomePlugs are you going to use-85 or 200Mbps?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You've got a great BB connection and will have no problems with iPlayer. I can scrape the high quality version with approx 3mbps. Whatever homeplugs you use are bound to be well up to the job depending on the wiring of your house.
  • Hi.

Thanks for the replies. Can progress now with a bit more confidence.

    Regards. Allen.

    Hi.

Thanks for reply. I'm going down the homeplug route. I see they vary in price and performance. Any advice as to which ones will be ok for TV, music, You Tube etc.

    Thanks in anticipation. Allen
