Dixons didn't charge me, now they want money

Hi
I purchased an LCD tv from dixons about 6 weeks ago, using my mothers credit card (as it had 16 months interest free) the tv was £1200.

I received a phone call today from dixons saying that they did not receive the payment and they were asking if I could make full payment. The woman on the phone said that it was their fault as there was a problem with the system.

I told her that I would check with the bank and they have arranged to re contact me.

I have spoken to my mother and she has comfirmed that the money hasn't came off her credit card.
The problem is that at the time of purchase the credit card had 16 months interest free but that offer has now finished so if I was to pay for the tv now I wouldn't get it interest free.

Where do I stand and also what would they do if I just ignore the phone and don't speak to them

Any advice is much appreciated

Thanks in advance

  • Ask Dixons to meet you half way - so that neither of you is financially losing out as a result of the transaction not occuring when it was expected eg. can they give you 16 months interest free credit?

They would pursue other avenues to ensure that you pay them the money that you legally owe them. And those avenues would almost certainly result in more costs being incurred that you would be liable for.

You have to pay this money, but as you find yourself in a less favourable position due to their mistake it may well be worth negotiating a little. As the poster above stated, the most obvious way to go about this is to see if they can offer you 16 months interest free credit to match the deal you would have received on your credit card.

Or reduce the price of the television so that the total + interest is total £1200 if they say they can't do interest free.
  • Thanks for the advice guys, the interest free option would be the best scenario for me.

Yeah, i would see if they woud put it on interest free for the next 6 weks as that would then give ou the same deal you had on the credit card.

You should take your own advice in your signiture! I find that massively ironic from reading your first post!
