I think you will find that giros are a thing of the past when it comes to paying this benefit.

Agree with your more deserving people thought though.

some people still recevie giros for benefit if there are no other methods of payment options available to them and therefore if they recevie their benefit by cheque then the winter fuel payment comes by giro.

I have just ordered heating oil for a 79 year old relative .The oil cost £406 and might last until the end off January with the heating running 24/7.
The £250 payment will help .

We have oil fired central heating - it's really expensive. Might it not be cheaper to just heat your relative's bedroom with electricity if it's really cold rather than running the full central heating - that's what we do.

    Hi
Yes I did receive it by way of giro. I have always had any payment for benefits paid that way over the years.
I don't have a bank account or even a credit card - never have had.

I get my OAP every 4 weeks that way as well.

I find it much easier just to cash it and use it when I want.

Mind you, they (DWP/Pension Service) are always sending letters telling me that they are to cease all giros in the future and give a list of banks where I could get an account from.
    I just ignore them.

It's a shame that they stopped the benefit books, that was a lot easier and safer. Could never understand why they did that.

they stopped benefit books because of fraud and cheaper to pay direct to bank accounts

That's strange, do you get your civil service pension paid by giro then?
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!

    Hi,
No that is paid into my daughter's account, the same one that my salary was paid into.
    Why do you ask?

Except that I got a CWP last year and it wasn't £25 :/ That's what I find weird about this. I got the bonus separately. I am eligible for CWP as well, the lesser one obviously, but didn't get 25 for it.
