Driving with R Plates

Are the R plates the same for motorbikes all I can find are ones that stick to a car windscreen.
Cheers
Yep they are a pain I had to stick mine onto hard plastic and attach it under the numberplate cus I couldnt find anything else suitable. Your also supposed to display them on the front to, but it was damn difficult to find anywhere for mine0 -
You can definitely drive on the motorway with R plates in the left hand lane only. Apparently you aren't even allowed into the overtaking lane if you're stuck behind someone going under 45. It's a hazard to those doing 70 in it coming behind you.
That bit of advice only cost me 3 penalty points a few years back! Weren't even my bloody R plates!
I decided to have read at this thread because my daughter drove me from Belfast to Portstewart yesterday (using motorway and sticking to 45mph -which seemed to take FOREVER !!!) and she's an 'R' driver....I had NO IDEA about the 'left lane only' thing.....Does anybody know if this is still the case ???0 -
Driving on the motorway about 45mph surely has to be dangerous? I was in a van once and nearly hit an R-Driver who was coming off a slip road at around 40 mph, I couldn't move into the overtaking lane because of oncoming traffic in that lane. I literally had to break from 70 - 35.0

I find these 45mph drives really annoying. I know it's not there fault but surely it is more dangerous them driving at 45mph. The amount of accidents i've saw near involving R drivers on the motorway beggars belief. I'm glad i'm no longer an R driver but I really do think they should be allowed to do maybe 55mph and also some motorway driving when a learner just before they go for there test as someone who passes there test has never been on a motorway before once they past so how can this not also be dangerous.0

I never even had them up! I was in the RAF at the time in Germany,I asked the RAF Plod if I needed them up in any military vehicles I drove & they said nope.0

i hated being on R plates. Everyday i would have to cross from the left lane of the m5 to the left lane of the m2 and vice versa on the way back. It was !!!!!!! dangerous trying to get over at 45 when everyone is flying along and coming up behind you, some man nearly rammed me flashed his lights honked the horn violently and over took me in such a way that i had to slam the brakes!!! looking back would love to have hit him but i was terrified at the time.0

The 45mph limit is the biggest joke ever. Surely a better thing would be to limit engine size and/or horsepower for new drivers ? Works for motorbikes .
Is there any evidence that R-plates and the 45mph restriction reduces accidents ?0 -

Surely it would be much better to make motorway driving a compulsory part of driving lessons?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I live in England and I recently visited N.I and was told about the R plates - I had no idea that they were only allowed to do 45mph even on the motorway - that is sooo dangerous!!!!Professional Photographer with a love of bargain hunting.. Been a moneysavingexpert since 2006 :-D
