Hotels In New York

Off to New York for a couple of days on a layover in early November...
Anybody got any good info on hotels in Manhattan?
Need somewhere that's central (as we're only there for 48 hours) and cheap (less than £150 a night for a double). Don't mind if it's basic, as long as it's clean.
Thanks,
Andy

Marriot courtyard which is on 42nd and 5th. Very good location. Stayed there last year and it was under £150 a night from what i can remember. Very good location, just off 5th ave walking distance. We walked everwhere so easy.0

I'm planning on going the end of November too.
Looks like the hotels are expensive because they are smack bang in the middle of everything, but the rooms on some are very basic.
Even the Holiday Inn is gonna cost £860 (2 people, 4 nights), thats without flights. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -
It's a total minefield! Don't even know which area to stay in!0

I've only been to NYC once (but going again next week!) but from what I've read on this and other discussion boards, most 'first-timers' think they need their hotel to be right in the middle of Times Square. The truth is that the city is so well served by the subway and other public transit that unless you are a seriously long way out, you're never really that far from the action - New York has far more about it than just Times Square.Scooby_Drew wrote:It's a total minefield! Next week I'm staying in the same hotel as I stayed in last time. It's in the Financial District, close to the World Trade Center site. There is a subway station very close by and you can be in Times Square in about 10 minutes. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

Most online sites / retail shops only show you the main hotels, most popular or the ones right in the heart of NY. For a first timer I don't know where to look online for a hotel other than the main, expedia, thomson, lastminute etc.....
Also i've heard it's cheaper to book the hotel direct rarther than a hotel & flight package.
Where did you first hear of your hotel ?. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -
